Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Giovanni,

How complex are the drawings you create / edit?

Do you have this problem even with empty, newly created drawings?

Do you use (have) parametric constraints in your drawings? If yes, then try to remove them all and test performance.

What Visual Style you are using in your drawing? If it is other than "2D Wireframe" and you mostly using AutoCAD for 2D drawings, try to change Visual Style to "2D Wireframe" and test the performance.

Maxim

If you turn off LINESMOOTHING in AutoCAD2018 does the problem go away (or the slowness is not as bad)?
Message 7 of 27

What do you mean by "slow" then?
Does crosshair movement is slow inside drawing canvas? Or something else?
Do you have previous AutoCAD version installed (2017)? If yes, have you migrated settings during installation?

Maxim

HI @Giovanni_Astrologo,

Please try this:

  • Quit AutoCAD
  • Open the Terminal window, and run the following script (you can copy and paste it in terminal and hit Enter):

scutil --set HostName $(scutil --get LocalHostName)

  • Input admin password if it asks for permission.

Please let me know if this improves the performance of your AutoCAD session.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Turning off "linesmoothing" did help a lot for me. Are there other tricks like this that I can turn-off? I have a:

2015 iMac Retina

Processor: 4 GHz Intel Core i7

RAM: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB

With "linesmoothing" on, there was a 1-2 second delay every time I entered a new command, changed the zoom, basically anything.

Thanks, DS

Hi guys!

I do use a brand new MacBook Pro 15inch i7 16GB and I have this strange thingy; when I select all entities in a drawing (86Kb) and try to zoom in, the system delays and the coloured wheel appears for about 4 seconds before zooming in a little.

I did try the linesmoothing trick, but with no result.

Anyone?

Greetings!

Erwin

Hi Erwin,

Which Visual Style is active in the problem drawing?
Do you have Parametric Constraints in the drawing?
If you don't need Parametric Constraints you can delete them with menu Tools -> Parametric -> Delete constraints (use ALL option to select everything in the drawing).
You can also attach the drawing here - I'll look at it.

If the case is in Parametric Constrains, verify that Infer Constraints mode isn't turned on (icon on Status Bar or Shift+Command+I shortcut toggle).

Hi Maxim!

Thank you very much!
See the file as attached.
When you select all the entities, it will slow down the Mek :).

Many greetings!

Sorry, but there is no file attached.
You need to reply in browser, not by e-mail in order to be able to attach files.

No problem with zoom on my side - iMac 21.5 2017
Try to set 2D Wireframe visual style.
Plus: are you aware that objects in your drawing are scattered in three-dimensional space?

Hi Maxim,

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I am aware of the 3D component of this drawing.
We perform BIM2FIELD operations with total stations.
Since two weeks we do work with Apple MacBook Pro computers and as always, we encounter several minor issues like this one.

Good to hear that the file is performing well; I will further check my settings.

Many greetings from The Netherlands!
