Copy Project Improvement

When copying a project, if a drawing is open within the project you wish to copy, the flow process should ask you whether you want to Quit or Save, Close & Continue. At the moment, if you have a drawing open that you are copying, you end up having to quit, closing the drawing and then repeating the process again. This change would be in addition to the following:

Hi all,

One of the top voted ideas in the AutoCAD Electrical Ideastation is now available in AutoCAD Electrical 2023. With this feature, the user will be able to do a quick copy of the project with the default settings, even with the drawings of the source project open.

The customized copy work flow, that is available in earlier releases is still available, that includes the selection of the drawings, find replace and renaming the drawings. Clear the "Use selected project as template project" check box for customized workflow.

Note: If one or more drawings are open in the project that's to be copied to a new project, these drawings will be saved before copying the project.

I saw your AcadE webcast the other week Miles, and noticed that you used the old "copy project" function instead of the new one 😉

Hi Trond,

I was actually using the new Copy Project command but I had deselected the option " Use selected project as template project". In that way it copies the project, creates a project directory automatically but allows you to rename the drawings. especially useful when you want unique file names. I hope that clarifies.

Aha... So you don't have to CLOSE open drawings that are to be any longer? I hadn't noticed that nuance. Good to know!

I used the new command but unticked the auto option so that I could rename the drawings as part of the process.
