Catalog Browser needs to allow multiple entries of subassembly parts

Parts entered into the catalog database as subassembly components (i.e. they are assigned an Assembly List value) cannot be selected when we want to add them via Multiple Catalog for a one-off scenario.  Entering an Assembly List value prevents us from being able to select the part via the Catalog Browser. However we can have a main part number entered more than once in the database, as long as the Assembly Code fields are different for each entry, either blank, or with various Assembly Code values to make each an unique entry.  But sometimes we need to enter the same subassembly part into the database with and without an Assembly List value, so we can select it when building an assembly using the Multiple Catalog option.

The Catalog Browser edit mode will allow us to copy a row/record that is assigned an Assembly List value.  We can then blank out the Assembly List field, which should then cuse the entry to be interpreted as a unique record.  But when we click the Check, to save and close the Catalog Browser's Edit Mode, we receive a popup error, and we are not allowed to save the record.  See screen captures below:

We can make the entry by brute force, using MS Access, but we shouldn't have to.  It is dangerous to directly edit the database with MS Access, unless you possess a full understanding of how the tables must be formatted and you know how to avoid damaging the database.  The average user shouldn't be forced to edit the database with MS Access.

It used to allow this. If you look at Autodesk's own entries namely AB 22.5 LM4 emrgency stop switches they have the same component multiple times but with different assembly codes. Ive raised this previously and they stated at the time that they would look into it. Thats the last I heard.

Hi Miles. I recall being able to do it as well, but it was pre-Catalog Browser. I'm also getting customer requests for the return of the global search field, which would search all tables. Customers are reluctant to upgrade when they lose features they like, only to gain features they aren't interested in.

Forcing people to use MS Access when they want to keep everyone in the AcadE environment seems bad, it definitely need this functionality added back in.

There is a work-around for this but it takes you outside of the safety of AutoCAD Electrical's error checking, and you must have MS Access installed on your PC.  I suggest that you make a backup copy of the default_cat.mdb file before you attempt any direct editing of it.  

Work-around: If you are using the MS Access version of the catalog database, you can create the duplicate part number entries directly via MS Access.  Since this is done outside of AutoCAD Electrical, there is no error checking so be very careful what you do.  Don't add or take away fields/columns, do not rearrange their order, and do not change any field formatting.  Just add your additional sub-assembly part and give it a unique ASSEMBLYLIST value, or no ASSEMBLYLIST value at all.  Remember that there can only be one entry with a blank ASSEMBLYLIST value, and any or all other entries of the same part number must contain a unique ASSEMBLYLIST value.

We should have to use a  work-around which creates risks. This needs to be corrected by AutoCAD,

is there a way to add multiple sub assemblies without using access? company strictly prohibits using access. I need to add same sub assemblies with different quantities.

The MS Access work-around is the only method that I know of, until Autodesk fixes the Catalog Browser.

Right now, I just add spaces after manufacturer to make similar sub assembly unique. Not the best way but will have to do

Using ACADE 2023 and we still cannot use the catalog database as it is described to be able to use as mentioned above. We should not have to use work-arounds after this many releases.  Seems like every year we get new symbols but then don't fix legitimate errors.  Please fix this so we can use the catalog.
