Schematic Components Won't Show Up on Schematic List or Any Other List

I am using ACAD 2017 and have created a project and copied all of the pages from previous projects to the new project.  Some of the components from one of the pages won't show up on the panel list.  Additionally they won't show up as options when I try to make them Parent to Child level control symbols.  The components were originally generic DVs, I changed the Family to FLT hoping they would pop up when I tried to assign to the FLTs, they do not appear there and do not appear when I select "show all components for all families."  I have tried removing and readding the drawing, refreshing the project, closing and reopening ACADE.  Nothing seems to work.  I believe there is one issue causing both problems.

Hi there,

Just a quick note,  You say you redid some of the symbols?  Was this one of them?  It is a child component but it looks like a lost child.  The tag should be the same as the parent, like FLTxx.  FLT will just identify the family type.  Looking at the attributes I see it has TAG2 but I do not see TAG1.  You may want to take another look at this one.  Even if you did not redo this one, it may have been a little odd from the project you copied to begin with.

Child symbols won't appear in the BOM unless they have the MFG/CAT/ASSYCODE attributes in them...

The component I want to make parent is on a different page.  If it was on the same page I assume I would be able to pick it with the Parent/Child button. I was able to associate an existing Panel Component with the parent using schematic list in the Edit Component menu.  Now I need to associate the child.

I edited the CR1 (line 520) to be family "FLT" as well. When editing the child component, and pressing the DRAWING, CR1 appeared in the list.

Of course I do not have your project but you should be able to open these windows with the Edit Component tool if the project is the active project ....

Yeah, there's something with the associations between drawings I guess.  The only thing that comes up as FLT is the Child.  I was surprised I was able to find the Parent from the panel drawing.

I'd need the drawing with the parent in it to investigate further... Or the project scratch database...

Ahhh. Ok. The parent is a single line symbol (WDTYPE = 1- )
You can't "connect" a schematic child to a parent of another type.

Nope. XREF isn't required for parent symbols.

Really?  What would be the point if you can not show the relationship on the drawing?  Honest question, I had not considered that as a possibility.

There are many examples of parent symbols without children, right? What would you need the XREF attribute for then?
The only _required_ attribute(s) in a symbol, as far as I know, is the TAG-attribute(s).
IF that's in place, and the block name is acccording to the rules, you're good to go.

That's it!  I deleted the "1-" and was able to assign it as a parent.  Now how do I accept that answer?  Also, thank you.
