Electrical One Line Diagrams

Can I use AutoCAD Electrical to create one line diagrams for roadway traffic cabinet power distribution? Can it also create electrical load panel schedules or do I need AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP to do that?

ACADE can do the SLD's and they tie back to the schematics similar to the footprints. You change a rating or tag and it propgates through the dwgs as normal. The only difference is that the symbols have '_1-' on the end of the file name to allow ACADE to differentiate between a schematic symbol and the one line symbol.

 

There is also a Power Check function and associated report but as I have only rarely played with it, I can't really help in what it can and can't do.

I tried using the power check tool and it is terrible. It was an idea that never got fully fleshed out.

If in a single line diagram drawing I create a main distribution panel showing the feeder breakers and their branches, is there a away to get a schedule for that main distribution panel in AutoCAD Electrical or perhaps by using the other MEP AutoCAD or Revit software? Currently I just draw out one line diagrams for roadway equipment circuits in another CAD software called Microstation and then create load tables in excel. I'm trying to determine if working with AutoCAD electrical would be more efficient.

By making use of the installation and location code functions you can create a BOM for any panel in a system and you can generate a from/to wire list for all connections inside any panel or generate wire schedules for the wires connecting between panels.

I apologize but I am very new to AutoCAD and am not familiar with the term "BOM". I will take the time to learn these things myself but in the interim please answer me this: Can I use the software to create a panel schedule showing me the load on each breaker in the panel and load balancing should the circuit be three phase? Also, once the circuit is complete, can I get voltage drop information from the software?

BOM stands for Bill of Materials or parts list. Think of AutoCAD Electrical as a documentation tool. It does not do the engineering for us, nor does it simulate the function of a circuit. It is a tool that makes us more efficient at documenting our design. It does include a certa8n level of error analysis, such as warnings for duplicated device identifiers, duplicated wire numbers, components missing a part number assignment, wires not connected, components with a wire connection that has no wire connected, and more. It will also warn when you try to associate too many contacts to a relay. In certain circumstances it will warn of the possibility of a short circuit, but it is really just warning you that you are attempting to feed a circuit from two separate power sources.

Like testsubject said, there is a utility called Power Check that was added just before Autodesk purchased the program. They have not automated this feature. In its present state you can add load data to components in a circuit and later generate a report that totals the load data for the circuit. But the software doesn't automatically figure out how much current a component draws. It simply allows you to add this data to the component symbols in a circuit and later generate a total load value report.

So you're saying there is no way for AutoCAD Electrical to generate the type of electrical panel schedule as seen in AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP and it can't be done by importing the drawing/schematic to one of those either. If that is the case, is there another software that you recommend that can perform this task?
