Can someone please help me with ACE 2016.  I dont have any of the electrical components.  It says the .dwg was not found.  Is there something I need to do to install the library.  I thought ACE 2016 would come with all the libraries.  Thanks in advance.

ACE comes with numerous symbol libraries. You select the main library during installation, right after you select the manufacturers for the catalog database. After you select the main library you can choose additional libraries. You set the libraries and menus for each project in project properties. Select the library or menu category and click Default to assign the main library as your choice for a project.

Hint: To add more manufacturers and/or libraries go into Windows Control Panel> Programs and Features. Select AutoCAD Electrical. Click Uninstall/Change. Choose to Add or Remove Features. Make your selections, click Next, and click Update.

That's perfect, I never knew how to do that as well.  Although it did help me with one aspect that I never knew how to do, I still can't insert a simple thermostat symbol on the drawing from the SCHEMATIC>ICON MENU.  It says the the file is not found.  I didn't think that a schematic symbol needed a company associated with it (i.e. resistors, switches, thermostats, etc.) Thanks in advance.

Are you now able to access the Icon Menu and select the Thermostat from the appropriate section?

Is it only the The Thermostat that is causing this error or are other components doing the same?

Is the component you are trying to install a custom component or one of the standard ones that comes with ACADE?

Are the search paths pointing to the correct directorys to be able to find the components. See attached for clarification.

Schematic Library Selection.JPG

Under schematic Libraries, you should have at least one entry. This entry should point to a directory full of block dwgs. It is these files that ACADE can not find according to what you are saying.

Check to make sure that the entry is correct. If it is not correct, select it and then click 'Browse' on the right, then navigate to the correct directory where all these blocks are located.

Note that I have my blocks located on a server to allow everyone to use the same blocks. This was setup manually and you path setup should still be as it was when ACADE was installed.

If the path is correct then you might not have permission to access the directory that the blocks were placed in by default.

For this, you will need Administrator privileges and it is best to do this whith only Windows Explorer running.

Go to the directory containing the library directory (IE the one where the directory shows as a folder) in Windows Explorer and Right Click on the directory name. Select the Security tab on the dialog box and then select your user name from the list.

The permissions should have a tick next to every entry under 'Allow'. If any of the first 6 entries are under 'Deny', then that will contribute to the problem.

Folder Permission.JPG

To fix, click on 'Edit' while your username is selected, and then select the 'Full Control' checkbox under the 'Allow' heading. This will automatically change all the other settings to 'Allow'. Click on 'OK' and then 'OK' again to exit out once all the changes are made to finish.

You may have to restart your system at this stage to allow everything to propogate through the windows settings.

It works.  I recently upgraded ACE 2016 and in the properties folder it had ACE 2010 libraries that didnt work.  I selected the default libraries and it gave the the 2016 libraries.  I would have never looked there without your help.  Thanks and it does work now.  I tried several components and it now works.  Thanks again.

That did the trick.  My library paths were pointing through some .../Acade Qubit Beta/... folders.  I added the ...\Acade 2020\Libs\jic (etc.) sub directories to the schematics library paths in project properties, and now it's all A-OK!  Thanks for the direction.

Full control was already selected, everything was selected except 'special permissions' which I could not select as any user.  This is a stand alone installation on my computer, no one else in the company has ever used ACE.

So... You're experiencing this same problem? Can't find any symbols? And your project settings are pointing to the correct folders?

My Schematic Icon components are not all loading. I have a few that will be found but many are not. I have had all of the icons loaded and some of the manufactures data loaded. I want all of the stock ones for ACADE to load dont care about the manufactures. Is there a place to download the .dwg files or a external library to load. I want to be able to access all of the supplied icons in the folder see Picture.

Your project is obviously set up wrong.

You're using the IEEE icon menu, but the JIC125 and NFPA symbol libraries.

The motor symbol you're trying to insert doesn't come as a symbol with those standards.

Please double-check your project properties, and make sure they're pointing to the correct symbol libraries.

As per the error message, acade is searching that file in the jic 125 library (imperial) folder. The file VMO1M6 is included only in metric symbol libraries iec2, iec6, iec-60617.............  The ACADE is searching for it in the jic125 folder because wd.env file is telling acade to use symbols from jic125, not the iec2, ............

You need to update the wd.env file which is normally saved in (for standalone PC) C:\users\username\My Documents\Acade 20xx\AeData

This is completely wrong.
The paths searched is controlled by the project settings, NOT the wd.env file.

The settings in the wd.env files are only used when you press the "Default"-button in the project properties. Then, the selected settings from the wd.env will be imported into the project.

I totally agree with the default settings. But we don't know what they have in the Project Settings and Project Properties. It would be nice to see a screenshot of those.

We HAVE a screenshot of that:

2021-03-03_13-30-12.png

From the AcadE help-file:

2021-03-03_13-32-08.png

In the first screenshot you see AcadE searching the User-folder, then the project-folder and then the folders specified in the project. Followed by the AutoCAD search paths.

You can make AcadE search the AutoCAD Search paths before the project paths, by enabling the WD_ACADPATHFIRST setting in the wd.env file.

I saw that error message before - it is a list of directories the acade is doing the search, and it is searching only in jic125 not in ice2....... But we haven't seen the actual screenshot of the actual project properties and project settings? Only the Project Settings can confirm which libs are currently used.

The others have advised you well regarding the icon menu and symbol library folder assignments in Project Properties.  I will only add that the IEEE symbols are not appropriate for control panel design schematics.  They are for circuit board schematics.  It was a big mistake for Autodesk to include that library.  And to make matters worse, the symbols are not all correctly made.  In fact a huge portion of them do not meet the standard of IEEE-315.

Similarly, the JIC symbols are out-of-date.  You should use the NFPA symbol library for North American designs.  JIC is a standard from the 1970s.  The Joint Industrial Council hasn’t existed since 1979.  The symbols themselves come from ANSI Y32.2, but the tag letters are governed by NFPA 79.

I guess you have figured out that the Icon Menu assignment is separate from the symbol library assignment.  Normally you want to use the menu that matches the symbol library folder you assign.  But you could use the NFPA menu in conjunction with the IEC symbols, in case you need to use IEC symbols but aren’t familiar with them yet.  You could do the same thing in reverse, in case you know IEC symbols but not NFPA.

The menu and symbol defaults in the wd.env file are not “live”.  They are there as a convenient way to auto-assign the menus and libraries to a project.  If you click the Symbol Library category in Project Properties, and click on the Default button,  the software will then read the wd.env file and load the schematic symbol library paths listed in the wd.env file.  It will assign the icon menu in a similar fashion, if you click the icon menu category and then click Default.  Other than that, the listings in the environment file sit dormant.  What matters is the settings in Project Properties.

We don't need that screenshot.
The screenshot we have lists those paths already!

I understand that the library is not being referenced and I also understand that the other Libraries IEC-.. Etc. are not included in my properties. I have gone and added all of the libraries that I have in my project properties. I have also had my system admin re install and update the libraries in the system to see if it would pull the files and allow onto my computer. I can and should be able to search for the file name in my directory and find it which I cant.  For some reason it is not installing the metric symbol libraries iec2, iec6, iec-60617. Or where do I go to get those libraries to install and reference to? I have given him the directions for adding other symbol libraries, and manufacturers but still no luck in fixing. Its been this way for months is this a common problem in Solid works Electric? Thanks

Make sure your sa did a complete download of AutoCAD Electrical (aka Browser Download) from Autodesk before trying to install it.

If you installed it using "install now", only the default symbol libraries was downloaded and using the standard way of adding new content won't work.

So.

1. Uninstall AcadE

2. Do a complete download of AcadE

3. Install it, and make sure you add the correct symbol libraries and manufacturers during installation.

If this is the same problem for solid works electric? I wouldn't know... But I guess all programs have some quirks.
