OK let me try and explain this another way.
When you do a search in the catalog browser, it shows everything that matches your search term except for one thing: individaul subassemblies. You can't see individual subassemblies unless you're in Edit Mode. But, what's visible in Edit Mode is directly affected by what that search term was. So, if the part number you used for a search term is different from the subassembly part number, it won't show.
In other words, the reason you didn't see any subassemblies when you went into Edit Mode, is because the items available to you are limited by whatever the search term is. Since your search term is the full part number of the main assembly, and since none of the subassemblies have that as their part number, you didn't see them when you entered Edit Mode.
This means it can sometimes be difficult to find a subassembly so it can be edited.
But, if you know the exact part number of the subassembly, you can get to it if you enter it alone as the search term directly. Keep in mind that until you go into Edit Mode, nothing will show up. But as soon as you hit that button, the item will appear.
Try following these steps:
1. Open the catalog browser and go to CR (control relays).
2. Do a search for ABB CR-U3E. Use that exact text string.
3. When you hit enter, nothing will show up.
4. But without doing anything else, hit the Edit Mode button.
5. Look who showed up!
Now you can edit that one subassembly. Save it and exit Edit Mode.
Next, do a search for CR-U3SM. Again, there shouldn't be anything there, until you hit the Edit Mode button. Once you do, though, the subassembly part should become available for editing.
Note that I have a completely default ABB catalog...I literally have never used an ABB component so I've never edited this part of my catalog. My catalog has these subs listed and I was able to find them using the steps I laid out in this reply. If this still doesn't work for you, I'll take the time to make a screencast tomorrow when I'm back at my regular workstation.
