Units change question.

How do I change the units in AutoCAD Architecture 2017 so that the boxes of the layout equal 1 inch per box? When you view the layout without having any drawings on it, you have the large boxes that contain 25 smaller boxes within. I want to make it so that either the smaller boxes are 1 inch by 1 inch, or the bigger boxes are 1 foot by 1 foot. Please help me out, for this has been very frustrating when I have tried to change it myself. So far, I have typed UNITS into the command prompt bar and it has brought me to the  Unit Options menu. From there, I selected the SCALE tab and tried changing the options there a quite a few times and then hitting APPLY, and each time I go back to that menu, it hasn't actually changed and is the way it was before I selected different values.

I assume that when you refer to "boxes", you are talking about the Grid.  The DSETTINGS command will open the Drafting Settings dialog.  On the Snap and Grid tab, in the Grid spacing area, you could set the Grid X and Grid Y spacing to 1" and set Major line every to 12.  Be aware that you have to be zoomed in far enough to actually see grid lines every inch; if you are zoomed out, the grid would become too dense to display.  If the Adaptive grid toggle (in the Grid behavior area) is checked, the grid spacing will scale up, based on the current zoom; otherwise, the Grid will just turn off when zoomed too far out.

That doesn't seem to be working either. Any time that I try to draw a line,
the length of the line is displayed as things such as, 2,678, 3,603, etc. I
would like it to show that the line I draw is ___ " long for inches or ___'
long for feet. Is it possible to do that?

When I know how long I want an item (line, Wall, circle radius, etc.), I type the value in.  If you are just looking for a rough idea of how the distance the cursor currently is from the previous point while in a command, you can set the Coordinates display to Relative (right click on the coordinates panel at the left end of the Status Bar, and choose Relative from the context menu, if it is not already the active choice) or you can activate Dynamic Input, specifically Enabling Dimension Input where possible, as shown in the image below.  The coordinates display is just for looking; Dynamic Input will accept keyboard entry in the active dimension box (press the TAB key to cycle between the available dimension boxes).

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I have three program options to
choose from, and I kept opening up the one that said Global, which was
giving me the odd coordinates. I opened up the one that said US Imperial,
and it started showing feet and inches. Thank you for your help though!
