Hi All new to autocad i have a student version (which i suspect may be the issue)

I am opening a .DWG file with a Model, layout, base and library layers

when i make changes and add items such as lighting etc to the model the changes appear on all layers and it looks fine.

I save the file with an updated file name

Send via email and tried usb to my laptop and log in to use free viewer to open it.

Despite spending hours trying all sorts the alterations don't appear, the laptop doesn't have the original file on it.

What am i doing wrong or is it a limitation because I'm using the student version, AutoCAD doesn't offer support to future users of their software, somewhat short sighted if i am to graduate eventually and choose something preferential to use...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated i need to be able to show progress my laptop is limited and so i use the desktop to do the work.

Thank you

Student versions of AutoCADARCH have nothing to do with transporting your file on USB or through email.

What viewer is this? And why are you using a viewer if I may ask? The viewer may be the problem, nothing more.

im using autocad free viewer so that if i send the file others who dont have autocad they could still see the updates when were doing group assignments, my laptop like many of my friends isnt exactly high end..

i suspect now it might be a layer issue

So what i added so far was strip lighting when i open in viewer its not there on the layout layer but if i click 3d they appear.

Iv used the flatten tool to try and get everything on the same plane the lights and other components say 0 on z axis but they still dont appear

Im sure its me im still learning to use this so any advice greatly appreciated

@amber_newmanGLBKU Any chance you can share your original unedited DWG file here?

Stuff I would try:

1   on the laptop you sent it to, in model space do a zoom extents and make sure the missing objects aren't somewhere out in the stratosphere.

2   also on the laptop to a REGENALL and an AUDIT and turn on and unfreeze all layers.

3   If that doesn't work, do the same thing to the original file on your computer, save to a new name and resend it.

4   Before you send it, make sure the laptop doesn't have a copy of the original file on it.

This is your posted file (which is missing XREFs) in AutoCADARCHITECTURE

This is the same file in DWGTRUEVIEW (the free viewer)

They do look identical to me, what are you seeing?

If you see anything missing, it's might just probably the two missing XREFs you may have forgotten to share with your viewer laptop most likely?

I'm not sure what you mean about 3D vs 2D, there is nothing 3D in the file you shared here in AutoCADARCH, so no 3D in the free viewer either

Unless I am mistaken, you added these 7 and they look the same in both software over here, what do they look alike st your end?
