rendering/giving texture to objects from tool catalog

I'm having issue trying to give items that were inserted into dwg via the tool catalog a texture. I've tried assigning a material to the objects and it doesn't seem to do anything.  For example, i'm trying to give this couch a fabric color but it still showed up as an orange block in the rendering, see attached picture

Here are two ways that I can think of to add materials to mult-view blocks.

1. Assign material to layer.  Make new layer ex. " sofa-tan"  and assign that layer to the sofa,  use command -layer and select material option,  I am a keyboard junky so that has been my goto for as long as I can remember.

Checking back through help, you can attach materials to layer from the visualize tab  ( I removed that tab from my workspace). or use the materialattach command. (Even better)

2. Edit the source block of your sofa mv block and assign material(s) to each item. (better option in my opinion)  You may want to consider saving the block and mv block definition to a library file of your own and add it to a tool palette for future use, otherwise you will need to make these changes each time you use the mv block.

I was able to get it to work with your 1st solution, however I'm intrigued about your 2nd solution. I'm very new at this so please forgive the ignorance but how exactly did you get to the dialog box in your 2nd solution? Thank you!

Another option:

Build the 3D View block for the Multi-View Block with Mass Elements.  Then you can assign a Material Definition to the Mass Element Style.  You can set up Mass Element Styles for each Material Definition you want to use, or you can set up Mass Element Styles for each use type.  The latter would allow you to swap a different Material Definition for a given use type and have that apply to all Multi-View Blocks that have Mass Elements of that style in it.

The out-of-the-box content is not built that way, unfortunately.

Right click on mv block and select edit mult-view block definition. Find Model view block, Insert block and then open in the block editor.

While in the block editor, select an object and open your properties palette.  Select Material under 3d visualization to assign a material that you have previously defined.  This action can be applied to multiple objects.
