Releasing objects after MOVE, COPY, etc.

Updated to latest ACAD and have an issue I've never had before.  When I move or copy an object, or group of objects, the software used to release the objects once it moved or copied the object.  Now after I move or copy, the object, or objects, remain selected.  I have to hit ESC to release them.

Is there a system variable that can change this?  This is a problem because as I zoom into click the destination point, I no longer see the originally selected objects and my follow up commands effect those items in another area of my model that I'm not seeing.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Alfred,

Thanks for trying.  The copy command on the toolbar is the basic copy command.  I edited my Modify panel by rearranging the icons, then copied that panel to the Multiple Objects tab.  Why it performs one way from the Home tab and differently from the Multiple Objects tab is the mystery.

Again, thanks for trying to figure it out.

Hi,

OK, please open CUI with the copy command in your new panel ... so we can see (exactly) the command and create a screenshot from that.

As I don't have that panel (I don't have AutoCAD Architecture), I'm sorry that I can't help more (without seeing the details behind the copy-button).

For what it is worth, the out-of-the-box Multiple Objects contextual ribbon tab in AutoCAD Architecture 2017 does not include a copy tool.

I am also unable to reproduce the described behavior.  If I use the COPY command, when the command is over, no objects are selected.

Attached is a screenshot of my CUI for the copy command.

When I look under my Home tab, the Modify toolbar, or panel, is shown.  If I select it, it jumps me down to show the modify toolbar, which is shown in the attachment.

When I look under my Multiple Objects tab, the Modify toolbar, or panel, is shown.  If I select it, it jumps down to show the modify toolbar.  Same as from the Home tab.

It's the same Copy command in the same toolbar.  I simply duplicated the Modify toolbar for my Multiple Objects tab since the program defaults to that tab when multiple objects are selected.  The problem is that the commands in the Modify toolbar function differently under the Home tab than they do under the Multiple Objects tab.  Sounds crazy, but that's what's going on.

If I could change ACAD to stay on the Home tab instead of jumping directly to the Multiple Objects tab when I select multiple objects, that would be fantastic.  I don't see any need for that tab for the way I use ACAD.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

that's crazy, it seems to be a clean copy and works differently ... I have no idea what's going on here.

I can't try it as I don't have a "multiple objects" panel, but what happens if you simply remove it (make a copy of your CUIX before!).

There's nothing wrong with your CUI.  All that diesel does is respect the preselection and not cancel it.  If you don't want to multiple copies mode of the copy command (which is a great feature by the way), then start the copy command, use the mOde sub option and choose single.  I can't imagine that hitting the escape is worse than needing to reselecting objects but you can always switch modes back and forth.

I hate that I had to click back on the home tab to use modify commands when it switches to another ribbon too. You can always undock the modify panel and just stick it in a corner. It will stay there when the multiple objects tab is up. That solution kind of annoyed me though. My end solution was to get a gaming mouse with multiple buttons. I have commands macroed to it, mostly the modify commands that I use most. Move, copy, erase, offset, trim, break, join, mirror. It was confusing at first but now I only have to click the home tab to get to a few modify commands that I don't use much anyway. I also have shift on a mouse key to get to temp snaps.

To get around the hitting esc key all the time, the mouse has what was called a "sniper scope button" it's a little button next too the left click. I macroed "esc" to that. After a week it was muscle memory to just it that button before I do any command.

Hi @travis_reynolds,

If you'd like to prevent the contextual ribbon from displaying when multiple objects are selected, try the suggestions in this article:
