Path Ghost in Drawings?

ACA2016

This is weird...two of us at the office are experiencing this: Sometimes (and now it's beginning to happen much more frequently) we get a 'path ghost' in our drawing.  So, when we launch the program, it opens to the Start tab/screen. On the left side of the screen it lists "Open Files", "Open a Project", etc. Down the center of the screen are the last files that have been opened listed as "Recent Documents". If you hover your mouse over one of those Recent Documents, the path of that drawing will appear on screen as a long string of text, black text on white background. Well, lately when we open a drawing (not just from the Recent Documents list, but even if we go to the Project Navigator, which we dock on the right side of the screen) one of those paths appears, and stays on the screen...sometimes only for a short time, and will go away after the drawing is open and a few commands have happened, but sometimes it stays there until you close AutoCAD entirely and re-launch the program, and then you have to make certain the mouse gets no where near those Recent Documents so that its path won't appear.

This is happening on 3 different computers of different models.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I just made a screenshot of what this looks like and it's VERY annoying...

Not 100% sure I have seen that exact thing, but I have definitely seen other tool tips get "stuck" on the screen.  Usually a REGEN or a PAN/ZOOM that forces the drawing canvas to be repainted on the screen gets rid of it.

I usually chalk it up to not having a certified graphics card (especially at home).  I certainly share your opinion regarding it being annoying.

Click over to the START tab, bet that's from a file you hovered over with your mouse before you moved to the next file tab.

Move your mouse away while in the START tab until no pop-up appears, it will stay away after that.

It's been around since the START button has been, no fix for some folks, your video card isn't refreshing at a rate to make it disappear.

Hi @BBP-Arch,

Thank you for posting your question here in the community. Based on your screenshot, I think you're experiencing the known issue described in the following article, and I believe this was fixed in AutoCAD 2016 Service Pack 1.

Could you review the article below, install all of the available service packs and updates for ACA 2016, and let us know if this resolves the issue with the floating file path for you and your colleague?

File name tooltip remains on top of all other Windows in AutoCAD 2016

Hi @BBP-Arch,

Did the suggestions we posted last week help you clear the file path from your screen?

Let us know if you need more help!

Hello and thanks to all who replied with helpful suggestions. This problem is intermittent. For the moment it seems to be working. I did nothing other than carefully try to avoid getting my mouse near the previous file icons. I did check on the Service Packs, and we did already install Service Pack 1 for AutoCAD Architecture. There was a more recent Service Pack available, but it was for AutoCAD, not AutoCAD Architecture and so I didn't install it.

Thanks to all for reaching out,

Scott
