Floating command line history text shifted too far right in AutoCAD

I have a problem with the command line on two laptops at home. (different machines, different install times) I have installed ACA 2017 and the command line comes up RIGHT JUSTIFIED (not technically Justified, just too far to the right?  See attachment. This happened before and after the install of the SP.

Doesn't matter if the command line is docked or floating. I typically use it floating, which is good because then I can stretch it a little closer to where I think the command text should be located.

Win10, ACA 2017 SP-1, touchscreen HP (one Envy, one Elitebook)

Thanks.

I cannot really tell where the command line is from your image, as the image does not show the extents of the AutoCAD window.  That said, my experience is that the command line always opens up centered left-to-right in the AutoCAD window, no matter where you positioned it in the previous use (even if you explicitly save the Workspace).  It will remember the overall width of the floating command line, but will center that width (L-to-R) after closing and reopening the program.

Yes. I am not referring to where the command line is located on the screen - I am referring to the 'history' or command line text - it goes to the right side of the window, not the standard left side.  Hard to find when using distance command, etc.

Sorry for not being clear. New imagery attached.

My apologies for being obtuse.  Your original image showed the issue just fine; my brain refused to process it properly.  That said, I have never seen that.  Answering Dean's questions may help him shed some light on the issue.  What graphic cards and drivers are being used in the computers?

They are both 15.9",  the default setting is 125% for both. I tried adjusting the Envy to 100%, but it didn't change the problem. Resolution 1920x1080.

Graphics Processors Intel HD Graphics 620 (Elietebook)

GP: Intel HD Graphics 520 (Envy)

Let me know if that sparks some idea of the problem! Thank you.

Hi @jessica.kramer,

Thank you for posting your graphics card information for the two affected machines.

One of the cards is on the Autodesk Certified Hardware list for use with AutoCAD 2017 products on Windows 10 systems, while the other is not.

  • Intel HD Graphics 520: Certified
  • Intel HD Graphics 620: Not Certified

For the system with the certified card:

For the system with the uncertified card, and if the issue persists after installing the certified driver version for the other system:

  • Update your graphics driver to a newer version via the manufacturer's website to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Disable High Quality Geometry, Hardware Acceleration, and/or Linesmoothing, since these options leverage the features in certified cards.

thank you all for the replies. I have updated the driver on the Not Certified....unfortunately, it didn't fix anything. The screen resolution isn't super high, no options for turning down the 2000 dpi. I can't find some of the settings in win 10.

I am not messing with the certified video card because I de-activated ACA on that machine to install it on the newer one.

Just as a test, the laptop is doing the same thing in ACAD as well.

Frustrating.

I also checked in ACA 2018 on the laptop this weekend and it also has the same issue with the floating command line.

Is there a way to change where the docked command goes? I want it under the ribbon, not above it...is there a way to edit this?

Commandline docking is only at the very top, bottom, left or right, other than floating of course).

I can get the command line to dock under the file tabs, but not above them and below the ribbon.  Is under the file tabs acceptable?2018-04-02_ACA2018_CommandLine_DockedUnderDwgTabs.png

Sorry for the delayed response - we lost our Internet access at work this afternoon.

As shown in the very short Screencast below, with the current drawing maximized, drag the floating Command Line up near the top of the drawing canvas. It will "snap" when you get close. Instead of releasing it there (it will remain floating, attached to the top of the drawing canvas if you do), move the mouse slightly upward until you see the docked outline below the Drawing Tabs. Now release the Command Line and it will dock across the top of the drawing canvas, below the Drawing Tabs.

Sorry to hear about the loss of connectivity. I know how that feels.

Thanks for the help, I greatly appreciate it. I am having some display issues with fonts and stuff now that I have messed around with the drivers and settings, but I am confident I should be able to roll those back to the way they were.

I do prefer my floating cmd line, the docked version will have to work for now. I would sure like a fix if anyone else ever has the issue!

Thanks @David_W_Koch

Has this issue ever been resolved?  I also get this problem on any laptop that I work on whether the driver is certified or not.

I have never had a reply that worked for me. Doesn't matter about the driver being certified and somehow I managed to get the same problem on my desktop at work - I think I transferred some setting in my profile and it mucked them all up the same!  So now at least, all of my ACAD look the same.  BAD, boo hiss.

Thanks for the post, lets me know that I am not alone now.  Smiley Frustrated

had the same issue (laptop with touchscreen); changing to lefthanded in tablet pc settings (system control > tablet pc settings > other) changed the text alignment to the left side!
