Flickering cursor in the "Open" menu

Hello all,

A coworker at our company is having a major issue with his cursor flickering between the arrow and the loading wheel. This only happens if he goes to open a new file, but it's as if every 1 second, the file explorer Autocad 2018 opens refreshes. Arrow->wheel->arrow->wheel, non-stop.

How do we stop Autocad from changing the cursor continuously when in the "Open" menu?

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community, and thank you for posting your question here in the AutoCAD Architecture forum!

There are a few things that can cause this behavior. Most commonly it is an issue with your network, but it can also be caused by a background program interfering with AutoCAD. There is an article here with some troubleshooting steps and solutions. You could also try resetting your user profile, as this can happen if the user profile gets corrupted somehow.

Let me know if this solves your problem!

Hey there Kevin,

I tested the network and the results were the same. Whether plugged in, on wifi, or without any network access, the cursor (while in the file browser window) will blink non stop.

I tried to reset the profile, but after clicking on the Application menu, there is no "Options" that I can click on. Just New, Open, DWG Convert and Recover.

Do you know where I could find that Options menu (the Application menu search bar only had commands with the word "option", not the Option Application menu button)? Additionally, if this profile reset doesn't do the trick what do you think would be the answer?

It's been a couple weeks so I checked the graphics driver but that's up to date on this machine.

I created a screencast of the issue but this site isn't showing it after I uploaded it.

Thanks for the help man. My schedule's been wild but I'm finally at a point where I can troubleshoot this daily until we find a resolution.

@Anonymous

Are you running "plain" AutoCAD, rather than AutoCAD Architecture, the subject software for this forum?

Either way, if you have just started the program and only have the Start tab open, the Options button will not appear on the Application Menu, and you will only have a restricted offering of choices.2018-09-19_ACA2018asAutoCAD_ApplicationMenu_StartTabOnlyOpen.png

If you click on the Start Drawing button on the Start tab, a drawing will open with the default template.2018-09-19_ACA2018_StartTab_StartDrawing.png

With a drawing file tab available and current, you will get more options on the Application Menu, including the Options dialog.2018-09-19_ACA2018asAutoCAD_ApplicationMenu_DwgOpen.png

(The images above are from running AutoCAD Architecture "as AutoCAD", and may vary slightly from what you would see if running only AutoCAD.)

Ahhh, can't believe I missed that options menu.

I went in and reset this user's profile through the options menu, then restarted the program, and we're still seeing the issue.

Attached is the screencast I recorded yesterday showing what exactly is happening.

Things to try:
Update the video card driver on that PC (or even try an older driver).
Turn off hardware acceleration in GRAPHICSCONFIG command
Log into user PC with an all new account and see if the problem remains: if gone, your user needs a new log-in.

So I had the EXACT same issue.  I unplugged my webcam and it fixed the problem.

The webcam kept trying to connect and disconnect causing a lag it the file folders.

Check your USB plug in devices.

Good luck

Just had a user with the exact same issue.  It was the webcam!  Unplugged the webcam and the issue went away.
