Default Space Graphics

ACA 2020

I use spaces quite a bit. They're very useful for area calculations and occupant loads, etc. However, the default graphic hatching for spaces is SOLID. This makes them difficult to grab. I always change the hatching to ANSI31. Is there a way to make that the default for all spaces until the end of time?

Thanks!

In the US Imperial content, the Drawing Default setting for Space Hatch components is user single with a varying spacing for all plan-type Display Representations (the ones with Hatch components) except for Plan Presentation, where the Base Hatch, Net Hatch, Usable Hatch, Gross Hatch, and Cut Plane Hatch components are set to Solid.

If you are using the Plan Presentation Display Representation but do not want solid hatches for presentation drawings, then you could change those SOLID patterns to user single, with appropriate spacing, or whatever pattern you prefer.

The above will only affect Spaces that use the Drawing Default display settings.  I assume you are using out-of-the-box Space Styles from a recent version, where there are style-level display overrides on four of the Display Representations.  In addition to assigning a unique color for each Space Style, the overrides change the Base Hatch in the Plan and Plan High Detail Display Representation to SOLID (Plan Presentation was already SOLID, so not really a change there; Plan Low Detail remains user single).

You would have to edit each Space Style and change the style override for the Base Hatch component from SOLID to whatever you prefer for each Display Representation that you do not want to be SOLID.  Then bring that content forward for each new release.

Or you could leave all of that alone and create a Working Plan Display Representation for Spaces (copy the Plan or Plan High Detail, perhaps?) and leave that set to Drawing Default, where you have your desired hatch set.  Add Working Plan as the DR for Spaces in a custom Display Representation Set, and use that Set in a custom Display Configuration that you use when you are working with Spaces and need to easily select them.

Either way, a lot of work, that then has to be brought along when you move to a newer release.

After reading the @David_W_Koch post I opened my template.dwg and changed the DR for spaces in plan to low detail.  That was easy and worked for me. Something that I would recommend though is to make your own x:\aec-content\Styles\Imperial folder and update all spaces, tags and property set definitions.
