cut plan difficulty

If someone could clarify -

   I am having trouble slecting my cut planes to remove visibilty of lower portions or upper portions ov wall plans.  I have already created cut plans set to my first floor, and to my second floor construct at the elevations that I desire, but I cannot remedy how to remove visually the "ghost walls" that appear below or above my cut planes.  Is this a setup issue with my display representations, or am I wrongly configuring my cut planes?  It seems as though I had this ability in 2011, and since upgrading to 2012, I do not have it.  What is going on?

are you using a different template with different display reps?

Using Project Navigator?

Prob easiest to post a stripped down file and someone can examine it.
