Content Browser not saving changes

About 2 weeks ago i started noticing that Content Browser was not keeping my changes. If i delete a tool, close CB then reopen the tool is still there. The same thing with renaming tools. I rename, close then reopen CB and the name is changed back. Some of the tool images have disappeared as well. I have even deleted a palette and added a new one and it does not save the change. My IT department assures me i have the correct permissions to make these changes. Has anyone else experienced this or know what is causing it?

Are you trying to make these changes in a custom catalogue?

Or changes in a ACA catalogue?

How do your users reference the tool palettes in your catalog?  Are they i-Dropping refreshable versions, or are they including the folder in which the catalog resides as one of the Tool Palettes File Locations in the Options dialog (Files tab)?  Do any of them have write permission to that folder?

I am not an expert on tool palette mechanics, but have found that changes to tool palettes are generally not written to file until you close AutoCAD.  If someone else with write permission was in AutoCAD and had the palette being changed open "directly" prior to the changes being made, but closed out after you made the changes, it may be that when that person closed out, the "in-memory" version of the palette overwrote the changes you had made.

We use the direct inclusion of a tool catalog file in the Tool Palettes File Locations method, but only a very small number have write permission to the network folders where they are kept, so we do not have a problem like this often.

there is one other user that has write permissions. we add paletttes via i-drop so they are refreshable.

I would not think in that case that what I previously described would be the problem.

If you make the change, close Content Browser and close AutoCAD, and then reopen AutoCAD and Content Browser, do the changes stick?  I would not expect closing AutoCAD to be necessary, but it may be worth an experiment.

I would also check to see whether or not the other user has Content Browser open while you are making changes has any affect on whether the changes stick.

Hi @tevansERD,

In addition to the information @David_W_Koch has provided, you may want to review the process in this article for updating refreshable tools and palettes. There are several resources at the bottom of the article as well that explain the recommended procedures for updating linked tools and palettes.

Additionally, what kind of server is the catalog stored on? Does it have any kind of file/folder replication enabled? I've seen this cause updating/disappearing issues with Content Browser catalogs for other users.
