Title says it all.  Tried right-clicking on ribbon -- show panels, but 'build' is not even displayed.  Architecture 2016.

thank you

I assume you refer to the Home ribbon tab.  When you right click, are you seeing all of the other AutoCAD Architecture panels other than Build, or are you seeing the out-of-the-box vanilla AutoCAD Home ribbon panels?

AutoCAD Architecture panels:  Build, Draw, Modify, View, Layers, Annotation, Transparency (not turned on), Inquiry, Section & Elevation, Details

AutoCAD panels:  Draw, Modify, Annotation, Layers, Block, Properties, Groups, Utilities, Clipboard

If you are seeing the vanilla AutoCAD panels, then you likely are running AutoCAD Architecture "as AutoCAD" and the acad.cuix file is your main customization file.  The Build panel will not be found there.  In the Options dialog, on the Profiles tab, is the AutoCAD profile current?  If so, do you have any profiles that start with AutoCAD Architecture?  For example, I have four, based on an installation done in the United States, in which UK content was included:  AutoCAD Architecture (Global), AutoCAD Architecture (UK), AutoCAD Architecture (US Imperial) and AutoCAD Architecture (US Metric).  If you have some like that, try setting one current and see if that fixes your Build panel issue.  If your previously current profile had already been highly customized, you can leave that set current, and then go to the Files tab > Customization Files node > Main Customization File node and change the file from acad to aca and see if that restores what you want, without losing other settings.

If you are running an AutoCAD Architecture profile, check the Options dialog, Files tab > Customization Files node > Main Customization File node.  Is it set to acad or aca?  If acad, try changing it to aca and sett if that restores your Build panel.  If it is set to aca, then your aca.cuix file may have been edited to remove Build panel from the Home ribbon tab.  (I hope that the Build panel was not deleted.)  Using the CUI command, you can check which panels are assigned to the Home panel, and, if the Build panel exists, add it back.  If this is your situation, and you want more details on using the CUI command, post back and ask.

Per Google Translate:

After you reinstall autocad architecture 2015 I had the same thing.

*******

If this is still a problem for you, I would suggest the same things.  Check the Profiles tab of the Options dialog for profiles that start with "AutoCAD Architecture" (or whatever the AutoCAD Architecture profiles are called in the Russian localization).  On the Files tab of the Options dialog, check what customization file (CUIX) is set as the main customization file.  The aca.cuix will have the AutoCAD Architecture content; the acad.cuix file will have the plain AutoCAD content.

Per Google Translate:

Hi, I am going to add my dilemma to the topic.

I have never been more frustrated with an interface!  I want my profile to include the build panel under the home tab on the ribbon, but I have found no way to add it.  There are other profiles i can load that have it, but they are missing a bunch of other stuff I like to use.

I lived without it for many years on 2010, had it then it went away and I couldn't get it back.  We just installed 2017 and I am determined to get it, but have had no luck.  I have tried loading a variety of profiles.

Some profiles I have tried loading are similar to what I want, and when you click apply in the load profile dialog you will see the build panel, but when you close the options window the panel goes away...nowhere to be found.  And yes i have tried right clicking to load and it just isn't there!!!

I tried the aca vs acad  fix but it didn't add the build panel.  CUI when in my profile didn't help.  The profile that has build only has express tools in the menu bar, and no small icons i can place around the screen.

ARRGH!

Anyone please help if you can!

Thanks

Based on your description (feel free to reply and correct any incorrect inferences I may make):

  • You are using AutoCAD Architecture (2017 now, formerly 2010, and , most likely, some prior, pre-ribbon version or two).
  • You were upset by the 2010 release going all-ribbon, all the time and casting aside the pull-down menus and toolbars present in previous releases.
  • You migrated your pre-2010 aca.cuix file to 2010, and then migrated that file to 2017 -OR- manually brought your pre-2010 aca.cuix file forward to the 2010 and 2017 releases.
  • You do not hate the ribbon, and would like to be able to take advantage of it along with toolbars and pull-down menus.

If I were in your situation, here is what I would do:

  • Find an out-of-the-box copy of the 2017 aca.cuix file (unsullied by the migration of prior version's file(s)), and make that my main CUIX file.
  • Create a new CUIX file to hold my own (or my firm's own) customizations.  This can be done on the Transfer tab of the Customize User Interface dialog.
  • Use the Transfer tab of the Customize User Interface dialog to open both my new CUIX file and the CUIX file that I had been using in 2010 or migrated to 2017 (the one that has the pull-down menus and toolbars that I want to keep using).
  • Transfer the pull-down menus and toolbars I want from the previous version (or migrated) CUIX file to the new CUIX file, and then save it.
  • Add the new CUIX file as a partial CUIX file, and then add the desired pull-down menus and toolbars to my workspace(s).

You will NOT want to load the full previous version/migrated CUIX file as a partial CUIX file with the current aca.cuix file as the main CUIX file.  Nor would you want to load the full acad.cuix as a partial CUIX file.  The reason why is that you would end up with duplicate contextual ribbon tabs for the same command or action.  That will most likely cause AutoCAD Architecture to lock up.

For what it is worth, I never use the migration function.  I believe it has been improved a bit over the years, but other than workspaces, I try not to customize the main aca.cuix file whenever possible.  Keeping customizations in one or more partial CUIX files makes it easy to move them forward to a new release and to use the new version aca.cuix file, which often included changes to support new features that would be lost if you brought the old aca.cuix file forward.

Thanks for the input.  My biggest problem with the ribbon is that it takes up so much space, and if you minimize it to tabs or titles it takes to long to work your way in to the command you want.  I just put it vertically on my second monitor and click over there when i need something.

The little toolbar buttons at the perimeter of the screen for my most used commands take up much less space, and are much quicker to access.  Hot keys cover the rest.

I will work on transferring menus and toolbars to a new cuix and let you know if I need more help.

Thanks for the quick response.

Where do the cuix files live?  I want to load the one with the menu's that I want.  I searched the c drive for *cuix* and only found some icon files.

Also, the transfer tab is unclear.  the headings are "customizations in main file" and "ccustomizations in new file"  I assume main file is the a file associated with the profile I have loaded, and new is the file I want to pull from, but when you assume......

Please clarify, thanks

The shipping CUIX files get installed in each user's profile.  The default location would be:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACA 20xx\enu\Support

where you would substitute your Windows user name for YOURUSERNAMEHERE and the version of ACA you are running (such as ACA 2017) for ACA 20xx.

AppData is a hidden folder in Windows, so you will need to turn on hidden files and folders in Windows/File Explorer in order to be able to get down to the Support folder (or have searches return results from there).

You can set up the Transfer tab with any two CUIX files.  The initial default is to have the currently designated Main CUIX on the left side.  You can use the drop-down list or the Create New or Open Customization File buttons at the top of each side to open any two files you want.  (You can leave the current Main CUIX file open if that is your intended source or destination for copied content.)  You can drag items from either side to the other side to copy them from one file to the other.

Thanks, actually I found it just before your post. I did have hidden files turned on, and search hidden files checked, but for some microsoft reason it didn't return the cuix files. Found it by going into profiles/files and looking at where custimization was looking.

under the user profile all I see is <<Unnamed user>>, I also tried " Main Customization File node and change the file from acad to aca and see if that restores what you want, without losing other settings." it said file not found.

How can I load get and load the missing file?

Do you have AutoCAD Architecture, or just AutoCAD?  AutoCAD Architecture ships with both the ACA.cuix and the ACAD.cuix.  The latter is only used for "as AutoCAD" profiles; the out-of-the-box AutoCAD Architecture profiles are based on the ACA.cuix file.  [Note:  The previous statements are based on the content distributed in the United States.  Things may be different when using localized content in other parts of the world.]

If you have AutoCAD Architecture, as your post states, then look here:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACA 2017\enu\Support

(If you - or someone in your office - customized your installation and located support files elsewhere, you will have to find out where "elsewhere" is, and look there.

The ACA.cuix file should be there.  In the program, open the Options dialog, and, on the Files tab, expand the Customization Files node and then the Main Customization File under that.  That will show the path that AutoCAD Architecture is using to find the main customization file, along with the name of the file.  Does that entry end with "aca"?

If you are running the <<Unnamed Profile>>, chances are it is using the acad.cuix as the main customization file.  If you have no other profiles listed on the Profiles tab in the Options dialog, you may want to consider running a repair installation, to see if that will give you one or more AutoCAD Architecture profiles, as that would be a lot faster than building a profile from scratch.  If that fails, I would probably do a clean uninstallation of AutoCAD Architecture 2017 and then reinstall it.  Is this the only installation that has been done from the installation files that were used to install the program?  If not, were the others successful in creating additional, AutoCAD Architecture profiles?  If not, I would recommend downloading fresh installation files, and would also recommend getting them from the Virtual Agent.

I look for the aca.cuix file under C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACA 2017\enu\Support and did not find it.

My computer is pointing to the acad.cuix, as seen in the file path below:

C:\Users\mwhs designs\appdata\roaming\autodesk\autocad 2017\r21.0\enu\support\acad

My office is small and I am the only one using 2017 in my office, others are using 2012. Is there someplace I can down the ACA file from and past it into my user folder or can I find it on a computer running 2012 and copy that one into my computer?

Are you certain that AutoCAD Architecture 2017 was installed, and not just "plain" AutoCAD 2017?  The ACA.cuix will not do much good if you do not have the program files for AutoCAD Architecture.  In the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017 folder, do you have an ACA folder?

You should also be aware that AutoCAD Architecture 2017 uses the 2013 file format, and AutoCAD Architecture 2012 uses the 2010 file format.  You will not be able to share editable AEC objects (Walls, Doors, Windows, etc.) between the two versions, as there is no way to convert 2013-format AEC objects to 2010-format AEC objects.

It is a separate installation, assuming you own a license for it.  You can keep the AutoCAD 2017 installation in place - the AutoCAD Architecture installation will go faster because you already have a lot of the "shared" components installed.  You can download the program from your Autodesk Account/Management page or from the Virtual Agent.
