aca2018 F1 help

Hello all,

Just installed ACA 2018 on a Win10, Dell Precision 7810 Tower.  When I start a command and hit F1 for help, it opens the help window to the last command, not the most current active.  If I close the window and hit F1 again the current topic finally opens.

Is this a bug or setting?  Just annoying.  Smiley Happy

Thanks in advance,

Tom

What us through what you actually do to "start a command" just to ensure we can replicate it correctly when you get a chance. Also...

Is this an "autocad" or "architecture" command?
Are you in "autocad" or "architecture" profile?

Try using the offline HELP to see if that helps https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-architecture/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp...

Hi Dean,

As an example, if I type a variable command and it is set to 3, then I hit F1, the help window opens to the previous command, which may have been something else.  I close the window, leaving the command line showing the variable, hit F1 again and the Help window opens to the variable I am trying to get info about.

I'm using the ACA profile.  The variables are like STARTUP, STARTMODE etc...

Thanks

Tom

Interesting method, I've never done it like that before: when I tried it, I got nothing but the startup page in HELP (or if I leave HELP up, in the background, it brings back up the screen I left on there).
What older version did your method work? I'm not sure it ever worked like that but I could be mistaken.

I was coming from aca2014 and aca2016.  I think it has been available like this for a while.

I get the startup help too if I haven't done anything else first.  Try doing other commands and then type a new command awaiting a response and hit F1...it should bring up help for this current request, but now it brings up the previous command.

Definitely odd.

I am not able to replicate your described older 2014 method in 2017 or 2018: maybe it got "fixed".

I am able to replicate the behavior you want in AutoCAD Architecture 2018; I get the page of the current command in the Help when pressing F1, as noted on this page in the Help.  Context Help may not be available for every command, but it did work for me for the STARTUP command/system variable.

Hi @tcrish,

This does seem odd. I'm able to get this working here on my end. Specifically:

  • I enter the command and wait until the autocomplete list populates.
  • Then I hit F1 and it brings up the command I just typed.
  • This has been the expected behavior for several releases now (I'm not sure precisely when it was introduced).

Which build of ACA 2018 are you running? (Take a screenshot of your ABOUT dialog box and post it here.)

Hi Victoria,

It appears to be working now.  I am seeing a quick flash of a previous page too quickly to read.  But it is displaying the info now.  Not sure why, but not complaining.

Thanks, and thanks to all others for chiming in too.

Appears to still be working.  Also, thanks Victoria for the followup, I did have an update waiting so I installed it.  Maybe this will solve my other issue too. Smiley Very Happy
