2021 Released without warning?!?

In a time of turmoil and confusion, it looks like 2021 was released without warning. We are already scrambling trying to get remote machines up and running for people. Yesterday's installs were all 2020, and suddenly we noticed todays are 2021! Now we have multiple versions spread out amongst users on their local and remote machines. What issues will this cause? Does 2021 still save as 2018 format? Definitely an unnecessary change this week of all weeks.

if you’ve been following autodesk for a while the release dates are the same time every year

who said you had to install 2021 right when it comes out?

Hi @adearth

AutoCAD Architecture 2021 will save the drawing in the 2018 file format.  Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Who said we had to install? I don't know... the governor? It's no secret we are in a crazy time... just a few weeks ago we were calmly working on updating some standards and working on efficiency... now we are scrambling to react to a new way for everything. Users are spread between young guns with good machines at home, who can handle upgrades with ease.... to 60+ "well seasoned" users, on home laptops they use to skype grandkids, who panic if their icons move and are still cursing outloud and this fraking ribbon thing.....

The simplest, and least contact solution, was to tell everyone to just download the demo for the version we have licensed (in this case Autocad Architecture). Get it installed, test it out, and if it works well we can go ahead an log in once you've shut down your office machine. It's my understanding you get up to 3 simultaneous installs, so long as only (1) is used at a time and its all used by the same user (although its a whole other issue, that for the good of the industry, autocad should seek to lesson those restrictions temporarily while we all sort this all out).

I'm not asking for much. Just the same as i'm asking for everyone... Slow down, communicate with people, and like i teach my Cubs... Do Your Best.

You don't have control over what your users install: I.T. 101 rules. Sorry you missed the chance to do that before now. Maybe next time.

Most of the new features are general to AutoCAD2021 https://blogs.autodesk.com/autocad/autocad-2021/

If you're freaking out due to all the shutdowns, etc., then that sounds like issues on your end. It has nothing to do with when Adesk releases a new version. Just... don't install. It's really that simple. *No one* has decreed "thou shalt install the latest version of autocad the day it comes out despite a pandemic".

Again, if it's freaking you out, then who cares if you're running version 2020 or 2021?

We have lots of "well seasoned" users (myself among them) and "young pups" who are now working from home on various combinations of work laptops, home laptops/desktops, work desktop dragged home, vpn, remote desktop, etc., etc., etc., and it's all working just fine.
