The direct plot-to-EPS-file method gives blank illustrations with a frame
only (they have no preview) - not pleasant to work with in a DTP program.
The preview can be added to an existing PS file with GhostScript (+GSView
for ease of use). The lineweights should be carefully chosen with this
method to get a readable final illustration (the illustration could be much
smaller than a 'normal' plot).
The AutoCAD -> Illustrator -> Indesign path gives much more flexibility and
control. There are various ways to get an AutoCAD dwg in Illustrator: WMF
export from AutoCAD or plot to PDF and open in Illustrator, or open the dwg
in Illustrator 9. Each has pros and cons.
