Resetting Arnold preferences

I am using Mac Maya Arnold 4.20. Render View stopped working and only shows a black image. If I render the current frame, it renders fine. There is plenty of light. If I create a new scene, create a torus, add a dome light, I still get only black. I created a log to my desktop but it is empty.

Is there a way to reset the prefs for Arnold without having to reset all of Maya? Thanks.

You could try creating new Maya Prefs and re-installing the latest plugin.

Thanks, I tried reinstalling the latest Arnold plugin, no change. I am trying to avoid creating new Maya prefs if at all possible. It is a lot of work to get all the shelves, scripts and everything back running again.

Just to test this, make a backup of your Prefs folder and try it with new Maya Prefs. Then you can replace the new Prefs with your old ones if it does not work.

What does the log file say?

The log file is empty. Resetting the prefs by moving the folder makes the issue go away but redoing the Maya prefs every time Arnold starts acting strange is very time consuming. I just did it less than a week ago.

Do you still get an empty log using Debug/Max. Warnings: 100?

It looks like the render didn't finish. Do you have a log of the finished render?

Btw, are the exposure and gamma at their default settings?

The exposure and gamma are at the default settings. As far as the finished render, what I sent you was after the IPR got to 100%. I get black for the IPR and I get black if I hit the render button next to it in the Arnold tab. The file will render correctly if I use "Render Current Frame"

Can you screengrab which render view you are using? Does this happen in both the Maya Render View window and the Arnold RenderView window? Are you rendering the persp camera or do you have a RenderCam?

I just created a new scene with just a torus and a Skydome. The render view is PerspShape. It only happens in the Arnold Renderview window. Here is the log:

Test with Debug Shading first (Render > Debug Shading in the Arnold Render View).

While testing, I would lower the AA samples, just to speed things up...

I am still having the issue of the Arnold RenderView window not rendering. If I delete the Maya Preferences it goes away for about a week. I have done this twice now. Re-setting up after a preferences reset is time consuming.

There must be a better solution. The logs don't appear to give any useful information. What is the next step? Without RenderView, Arnold is very much handicapped.
