Memory usage increasing with every rendered frame

Having this issue:
Bought a new System with a Ryzen 5900x and RTX 3080ti and rendering an animation with it. Not gonna talk about the dissapointing increase of render time (expected alot more), but the memory usage...

My old specs usage while rendering was about 7800MB (GTX 1070 8GB), so i adjusted the scenes textures to the limit. Expecting to have more memory to spend with the new PC, i opened the
exact same scene, populated GPU cache and started ARV... just to realize, that memory usage is about 10k...!?

To make things worse, during production render the memory starts to increase with each frame until it reaches its limit (12GB) and crashes... error.txt

Yes am using .tx, drivers are up-to-date, latest Arnold version and no there arent any displacements (cant use them anyway, even one displacement crashes max right away)...

Whats going on???

You can ignore the ocio warning. See https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/arnold-for-maya-forum/unable-to-find-default-ocio-config/td-p/1105266... for details.

The other set of warnings suggests something isn't set up right in your scene. Before you try to fix your scene, if you create a scene from scratch does it work? https://arnoldsupport.com/2019/01/29/shadinggroup-has-no-surfaceshader-input/ also has some info on what could be causing that.

this error is from an empty scene, new scene with only 2 standard surface, 2 simple poly a light.

the result is a black back with magenta geometry, even a sky light doesn't show in render.

I tried to reset maya prefs. but no luck, uninstalled and reinstall Arnold, no luck, uninstall maya and reinstall it, no luck.

I'm now downloading an older version of Arnold and will try again.

Odd. I would suggest making a new thread about this so that someone can help you with this, as people who know how to solve this might not be reading a thread on gpu memory. Once you're properly upgraded you can report back here if you still have a memory leak.

@cerakecera If you can batch render, there is a temporary solution I have been using in the last few days. Check my last message on THIS thread 🙂

Actually, it was my bad, I forgot a dll (ai.dll) in maya bin, so after deleting it and reinstall the latest version of Arnold render, my issue was resolved and yes memory leak was resolved too!

now m rendering on GPU with no problem or memory leak.

thanks for help @thiago.ize

Same problem here. I can render somewhere between 30 - 60 frames or so in Sequence and Batch modes and then it stops. And if I try to start it again, Maya crashes. I'm fed up of having to keep starting it over and over. Shouldn't be an issue to just want to leave it running and be off to do other things. They need to fix this issue as a priority as I've experienced it for ages now. Using a RTX4090 too so it seems ridiculous to be running into VRam problems.

nialcollegework, what version of Arnold are you using? Have you updated to the latest? https://arnoldrenderer.com/download/

Yes I've downloaded the latest version. Tried both of the latest Nvidia drivers too. Studio and Game Ready

Can you post the detail level verbosity logs so we can see the memory increase and verify the arnold version actually being used? https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-get-an-Arno...

I sat and watched a render, watching the memory usage. GPU seemed to go up and down and back to normal which seemed fine but actual Ram, ddr5 seemed to go up and down but not completely back to normal so it was slowly climbing with every rendered frame until it hit 100% which crashed Maya and shut it down. I assume this is what is happening with every render. It renders around 50 or so frames and reaches 100% ram utilisation and crashes.

I rendered a scene with Cpu and it normally consumed about 10G of RAM, but when I rendered the same scene with Gpu I noticed that the RAM was getting fuller and fuller to the point of consuming almost all of it and closing the program. Something that never happened with the Cpu always remained in the 10G of RAM. There is something strange there.

Some, but not all of the leaks have been fixed. Can you see if the latest Arnold (core 7.2.3.1 for now) improves this for you?
