Solaris Render Geo Settings Curves Basis not working

Hi,

I am switching between the different curve basis in the "Render Geometry Settings Node", but the curves do not update in the renderer. I am using USD curves exported from Houdini.

Is this supported yet?

Curves look like below in all renders no matter the type of basis I choose. "Thick" mode works though.

Hey!

Could you share an example dataset, so we can confirm what's the issue?

Hi,

Sorry for the lack of response on this thread. Do you still need me to pass you a .usd file?

We are still experiencing the issue with curves not subdividing when changes the basis.

Hey,

Here you go. Usd file of a small subset of curves.

Hi,

Any updates on this? I am still unable to get curves basis working in Solaris.

Thanks,

K

Just attaching a screenshot to show Scene Graph Details:

Both "basis" and "primvars:arnold:basis" are not reading the specified attribute. I have tried with bezier, b-spline and tried spelling it many different ways.

Hey, I was struggling with the same issue. I believe the solution is to set the basis curve primitives' "type" to "cubic".

Also looks like USD's basis determines the actual basis rather than the arnold basis primvar

Hi to all,
while I was shading a scene with fur/hair, I realized that my curves (I was rendering in "thick") had some issues at vertex point along their path. It's like arnold gives width to any vertex as well as the curves.
I tried to change vertex sampling hairgen in sop, I deleted any attribute but  there's no way, I haven't been able to solve it yet. has this ever happened to you?

any Idea?
thankyou

This a different question, not related to curves basis.

Looks like you're using an older Arnold. See the screenshots for this Arnold 7.2.5 release note:

  • Improved thick curves intersector: Curves in thick mode are on average 10% faster (in some cases, more than 100% faster) and they look better in closeups. (ARNOLD-2875, ARNOLD-8549 and ARNOLD-14391)

Hi Stephen,

sorry if I am a bit off topic...

It seems that the problem also occurs with HtoA 6.2.5.1 is a bugfix release using Arnold 7.2.5.1 on houdini 20

Hi, I'm facing the same issue, Arnold's "Render Curves As" does nothing.

I tried to change the type to cubic, but most of my curves disapear? (but the few that stay are smooth now).

I'm not sure why changing that single option makes my curves disapear?
