Can't copy curves from one layer to the other

I need to copy curves from one layer to the other. This is what I do:

1. Select layer and curves on that layer

2. Ctrl X

3. Select new layer

4 Ctrl V

But the curves get pasted back into the original layer.

How can copy and paste curves from one layer to a new layer?

Can someone confirm if this is some sort of bug or is there a work around?

All I want to do is copy curves from one layer to the other.

Hi,

your observation is correct: Copy & Paste, Cut & Paste, as well as Duplicate of an object (like a curve) will always preserve the objects layer assignment. As this property is seen as part of the object, this is expected behavior.

In order to achieve the selected object (i.e. curve) to be assigned to a new layer,

  • Select the object(s),
  • Use Right Mouse Button on the target new layer,
  • And choose "Assign" in the shown context menu

Hello,

The Paste tool in Alias (Edit menu -> Paste) has various options in the option box for determining where an object is to be placed during a paste operation.  By default it is set to "Same Layer" but you can also choose to paste to the "Creation Layer" or you can choose "Always Ask" which will bring up a Pick Chooser type window.

So it depends on your preference for how you want to work 😉

I've noticed that I need to re-apply this setting every time I open Alias. Is there a way to set it by default permanently?

After you make the change, if you save your preferences (Preferences -> User Preferences -> Save) it should remember the setting the next time you start Alias.
