alias 2020 how to crease the minority edges instead of chains picked

Well ,i am an alias user as well as a speedform user.it's interesting that i can export my speedform box mode model as obj file directly imported into alias (from subdvision) with almost the same visual effects. But meanwhile ,it is all not creased in alias.I have to complain a little it is arduous to repeat the same work what have done in speedform...Besides,everytime when i want to crease some specific sub-d edges in sub-d visual mode in alias 2020 ,it's always chain picked by using tool edge loop or loop from edge.does it have a way to unselect some sub-d edges?

Hi,

thanks a lot for your feedback on Alias 2020.

Your observation is correct: it's possible to use OBJ as an intermediate format to bring over your subdiv data from SpeedForm to Alias 2020. While this is true, it's somehow inconvenient and has the potential of loosing data (you mentioned it: creases will be lost on that way).

We totally get this, and actually we are working on a direct SF3D import from within Alias. This implies that there will be no need to switch tools (SpeedForm / Alias). Also, creases will get through then. (However, bear in mind that the underlying technology is slightly different in Alias, so there will be some differences in details between the SpeedForm surfaces and the ones yielded by that new SF3D import.)

To your second question:
I am not 100% sure if I got that one right. So please excuse me in case my suggestions are going into the wrong direction. But here is what I do if I crease only one or two edges:

  • I assume there is already a subdiv body in your model
  • Use "Pick Object" to select the body you want to modify, and turn on "CV/Hull" in the Control Panel
  • Go to Palette / Pick / Point Type / Edge to turn on the Edge selection mode
  • Select the edge(s) of the subdiv control cage which should be creased
  • Once you are satisfied with your selection, use Palette / Subdivision / Creases / Crease Subdiv Edge

i really appreciate for your reply! Yes ,you really got that .But sorry for me, i never realize that the tool is in point types.....So it took me long time to think about it.Anyway, glad to see there will be a great improvement of the software.

Thanks again!
