Partial Section Views

It would be nice to be able to create a view on a derived drawing using the "Create view / section" tool of only part of an assembly At the moment it creates a view which is the full width of the assembly even though I specify the width of the view buy picking two points to define the view box. I thought this must have been a bug but apparently it is how it is designed. I know you can create a camera in the model but it takes much more time to do so.

Also, I would be great if it was possible to adjust the size and depth of the views by dragging the view frame.

This would also be handy in large assemblies (trusses etc) where the views (elevations) need to be split.

As Stewart said, all can be achieved with cameras, but it would be a lot quicker to achieve with sections in the drawing.

this is a bug with AS2017.1. in previous version we could do it.

Also why do the section arrows have a mind of their own moving about all over the page layout, i have emailed support about this and was told basically suck it up and get on with it there is nothing that can be done, if a client see's a section view and the arrows are at random places how is this representative of the actual view you are trying to show, time to ditch adv steel and move to tekla im thinking!

yes I agree with dave the arrow sections have a mind of there own which is a joke it asks you to select the view area then puts them where it wants even worse when you update a drawing it will move views add dimensions and take dimensions out tekla must be a serious consideration if things don't change with this product

I originally submitted this as an bug report but was told by Autodesk that this is not a bug and I should submit it here as an idea. I am sure this is a bug in 2017.1. This is one of many bugs and design errors in Advance Steel which have been reported over and over again on the forums. I think we all hoping that when Autodesk took over they would listen to the users and start fixing these problems. Unfortunately nothing is happening. It has become obvious to me that they don't understand how time wasting, and therefore costly, these issues are. I never thought I would say this but, yes, Tekla is looking like a better option for the future of my business.

I will say though (again), whilst I think AS is a great product, it's being tarnished by silly little issues that can be fixed with ease. Users are the reason the software exists and frustration caused by time wasting is not helping.

Accepted but until now not implemented.

We only want to restore functionality from version 2017.0.

For future improvement... For now FIX IT/REINSTATE the functionality which not present in AS2018
Make it parametric... IE. have the detail be controlled be the section marker positions (width) and depth by  depth line where each can be dragged to control the generated section view.

I just ran into this problem today. This request has been accepted but is 7 years old which makes me sad. Surely it will be included in AS 2025
