Holes moving when section is stretched.

Holes moving when section is stretched.

When a section containing holes without bolts is stretched, the holes may move. This depends on which end is stretched. Can this be prevented? Holes with bolts do not move. The movement can easily go unnoticed and cause huge problems during and after fabrication. (From bitter experience). All holes should behave similarly whether they have bolts or not.

I couldn't agree more.

If holes are not being controlled by bolts they shouldn't move if section or plate is stretched.

Also it should be made possible to stretch the holes if in the stretch selection and move them using the move command, instead of having to select the grip point to do so, (which when multiple holes need moving can be very tedious).

Agreed. That would be ideal!

Thank you for your feedback on this.

In addition to holes, do you see useful that also other cuts that can be created on beams (like the multi-contour cut) to have the same behavior as the one requested for holes ? Currently the multi-contour cut also moves during beam stretch, similar to holes.

The current behavior rarely gives the desires result as the feature is locked to one end (often the wrong end).  The reference end also seems to change a lot when you have copied features from one object to another, so it just doesn't work very well.

I would say ALL features should stay in their original position in 3d space when the parent object is stretched.

If I want the feature to move, I would turn on features and select the ones that I want to move during the stretch.

Yes, I do. As I said in my suggestion, I think the stretching action should
have the same effect on holes as it does on bolts.

Thank you.

As per this thread "Please stop Modifications moving when plates and beams are stretched via grips." all modifications to beams or plates shouldn't move when a element is stretched.

If possible, with the exception when a modification is displayed and is selected in the crossing window. (but can be deselected if necessary, if a specific modification doesn't need to move from within the window) Example a back-cut at the end of a beam, and the beam is stretched via a crossing window encompassing the modification, then the cut should be able to be stretched with the end of the beam.

This idea must be implemented in tandem with "system line beams".   (There needs to be a way to stretch items (beams/columns) only along the length of the system line {axis (X)}, without having to set the UCS and lock the X axis)

These two ideas go hand in hand.

Hi,

the possibility to maintain the holes position when a beam will be stretched has been implemented in Advance Steel 2022.

You can find a video here:
