Xref Advance Steel to AutoCad

Is it possible to xref a Advance Steel drawing to AutoCad that will update if changed?  After exploding to ACIS it loses relation to its original model correct?

Correct, if exploded the AS functionality of the elements is lost.

However, you can do the following:

1. Make a separate .dwg from the main model, intended only for exploding purposes.

2. Explode the model

3. XREF exploded .dwg

4. Work on the original

5. Once you want to "update" the xref, repeat steps 1. and 2. The xrefed file can be replaced with the new .dwg.

You should be able to XREF the model without any special treatment, provided the appropriate object enabler is installed on the system with AutoCAD.

If you're working with a relatively recent version of AutoCAD, you could also reference a Navisworks model.

Currently, I'm training myself on 2016 Advance Steel due to client requirements.  I'm not actively utilizing Advance Steel to design but self training due to a slowdown of work so I'm trying to trouble shoot for the future when we do. We only have two seats of Advance so I need to figure out how we can integrate the two together.  Our AutoCad users are drawing in 2D.
