Hi all,

From your experience, which weld symbol applies better to a miter steel connection of rectangular tubes?

HSS8x2x1/4 frame, AWS D1.1 prequalified welds CJP.

example from Google for a standard weld:

+++ impossible immediately and miracles within 3 days +++
+++ the only constant is the change +++ stay tuned for more +++
+++ since 03/2023 is Advance Steel in maintenance mode, no further development +++

Thank you for the response, but that image is not a prequalified weld CJP.

Accepted solution

At first, for a CJP on any hollow tube you need a backing plate.

Then you must specify the effective throat and the weld size.

So you can use something like this :

Advice : Don't put any symbol you don't fully understand before asking your welding sup/ing to back up your... mind!

If this information was helpful, please use the Accept as Solution function, this make it easier for other users

Thank you for the response; just one comment, on CJP, the weld symbol shouldn't indicate the depth of the grove/weld, CJP implies that the weld metal extends through the joint thickness.

@FCort

It's seems you already know what you looking for so... was this a test?

FYI effective throat can be more than materials thickness if you ask for a convex finish.

It was not a test; this is a forum. It is better to clarify any doubt so everyone can gather the best information to reduce misinterpretations or mistakes.
Thanks for the reply.
