Use the Export to CIS/2 format to create a .stp file

I think you need the objects numbered prior to export.

Hi,

I believe that CIS/2 and STEP files are quite different despite sharing the same file extension (not clever by whoever defined CIS/2). Normal Advance Steel on AutoCAD cannot export STEP files. You need an AutoCAD vertical to do that. I haven't tried the 2019 specialised toolsets.

After exploding all your model to plain 3D Solids try exporting as ACIS (*.sat) file instead. I am sure Catia can read those.

I was able to create .stp files via the ‘Export CIS/2’ icon as outlined in Message 2 by Johnathan, but I was unable to import these .stp files into vanilla AutoCAD (refer to ‘Import Failed’ message attached). Our steel supplier informed me that he received a similar error message when trying to import the files into Solidworks. I then created .sat files as suggested by Aleck in Message 10. Our steel supplier was able to open the .sat files in Solidworks.

That's because the file extension stp described two different files.

The cis/2 file STP describes a Systemline start- and endpoint, with information for material and coating.

The Step file which you need for CATIA, SOLIDWORKS or Inventor is just a 3D Solid like an ACIS (sat file) without any information, just a 3D solid
