Sketching in one plane

I have a beginner question - lets say I have a sketch line that I want to draw for a stairs. When I go to draw a slope, the line skews into a 3d plane. How do I constrain it to an x y plane. I also tried creating a custom work plane but couldn’t figure out how to sketch on it?

set OSNAPZ = 1

set UCSFOLLOW = 1

Thanks - I've set those two values but it still seems to be locked in the xy plane rather than xz.

Hi,

u can and should only make sketches in the x-y plane. Before starting your sketch, move the UCS to the startpoint of your sketch. Now rotate the axis till you are in the x-y-plane. U can use your toolbox for these commands.

Now activate the following mode in your tool-box.

U will have a 2D-sketch in your x-y plane. Convert it into a polyline and so on...
