Ribbon in AS will be gone

Hi,

There was an extensive dialog back a few years ago why we were forced to use ribbon, with toolbars development discontinued.

Then it was said, it is Microsofts to blame.

Now they will be getting rid of the ribbon, finally listened to users.

Toolbars, if resizable (not just small or large), and floating or docked are the best option, IMO, slide one toolbar next to another instead of using the CUI and browsing between the tabs and panels.

This is what the future of Microsoft Office looks like – and it dumps one its most controversial fea...

Never liked the ribbon, so containing.

Hopefully, in a couple of years we will start using a different interface having the toolbars back.

If it is made of steel, I can model it and detail it.

Hi @acbsdesign,

50% of our ACAD/Advance user on Windows 10 ist still use the Toolbars, another 50% the Ribbon. I belong to the second half and I am quite satisfied. I can switch to Toolbars at any time and I don't have any problems.

What problems are you currently facing?

I hate the ribbons almost as much as I hate warm beer. It took a while for me to adapt. I remember in the past there was an option to maintain use of the toolbars but I thought that was long gone. Can you post a link to resource which will show us how to get toolbars back?

Thanks

Mark

I use both, but toolbars if resizable would be better, IMO.

How did you get the 50%-50% number, just curious.

@markhubrich ,

unfortunately, there are already a few toolbars, earlier versions were richer - look in CUI. You can use a couple of remaining toolbars, or create your own - features and icons are available. If a working installation is found somewhere (Advance 2011, 2012), workspaces could be easily transferred and then toolbars are available.

You can also "transfer" the RIBBON groups to the new / existing  Toolbars.

Yes, it's manual labor, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger 😉

@acbsdesign ,

50% - our office population under / over 45 years => other customs and tastes

resizeable toolbars - automatically through screen resolutionm, manually ... i's much more complicated

but - this is no solution, when I use a 4K display, I don't want to work in 1920*1080-mode with little bit readable icons

Do you guys know about this? https://www.graytechnical.com/software/cuixtools/

I just installed it but haven't messed with it yet and probably won't for a little while. Here's what they say it does..

  • Export files
  • Import files
  • Transfer files between two opened CUIX sources
  • Preview images before and after transparency conversion
  • Preview images and documents in other CUIX files
  • Custom RGB color conversion or transparency
  • Edit contained PNG, JPG and BMP files
  • Edit contained XML, CUI, RELS and TXT documents
  • View contained files in explorer folder
  • View content live in windows browser
  • Save edited CUIX documents
  • Backup converted CUIX documents into BAK files
  • Automatically check CUIX documents for icons

No,

What is the price of it? They don't list it.

Also-sometimes such tools mess up with AS, weird, I had some experience with other tools (such as manipulate attributes in multiple drawings) and they did slow AS by a lot. So probably a try only before buy is a must.
