Railing not working on straight beams

My railing macro doesnt work on straight beams anymore. Every situation i place the the railing on the beam and get the following, " The Parameter is Incorrect."

Please, if any information is available on this, i'd appreciate having it.

I'm beginning a job with several thousend lineal feet of railing and this is very troublesome.

Thanks for any input on this topic!

HI,

That sounds bad. The only thing I can think of that might be tripping it up, when it obviously works normally, is a library entry. Have you added any setups to the Railing Joint library?

Have you tried different sizes of supporting beam? It sounds silly but if you are just drawing any beam thinking it is not relevant then it might be that the railing is recognising that beam size and trying to apply a stored configuration from the library. That configuration doesn't make sense for some reason. A different supporting beam size will not trigger that configuration and might work.

Alternatively, what happens if you try using Joint Copy to copy an existing railing? Can you edit an existing railing?

Once you can get into the Railing Properties box you can edit the library to find and remove the dodgy entry.

You might notice that our library has a ridiculous Base Beam size set so that none of those sample configurations are ever applied when placing the railing. We select as desired.

(Any library entry called "Default" will be applied whenver no other entry matches the selected beams - regardless of the beam sizes in that line).

I hope that helps.

I had this issue whilst testing... my solution was to undo to the point at which it failed.
I found that no matter what I tried I couldn't get the function to work.

Obviously the issue is caused by a value the function can't deal with, which one... it doesn't tell you so you can't learn from it.

This is a major issue for new users as I found out.

This needs to be resolved (the dialog should appear flagging the error in RED) or at least it should flag errors whilst still in the initial data entry (Before it tries to build the handrail)

I.E. A function self check to ensure it can build it.. this should be part of all functions.

Resinstalling/repairs aren't a solution/workaround

IIRC Correctly, if an incorrect or nonsensical value is entered for a macro the Joint Box will turn red.

The issue was that the calling command for the macro literally would not work. The macro would fail to open so i was unable to put in any values

True..I have noticed this but it doesn't always do, as in the cases I've experienced.
As kirk below mentioned, the command fails to initialise and call the dialog onscreen.. it simply displays "The Parameter is Incorrect" in the command prompt.

Hello Aleck,

Thanks for this information!

That "silly" changing of the beam size did the trick. Once the railing came in, I was able to change it back.

I'm quite sure this all happened due to my being a new user and messing around with stuff here and there.

(That's why I am currently taking the classes through Graitec-USA).

I appreciate the help!

Best regards!
