hi,

you will find several posts of this forum other this,  but this is not possible within the purlin macro, that only works for the Straight beams.

However you can manually place them using the  polar array tools within the Advacne copy tools of AS,  just model in the first one,  then using some basic setting out  polar array around the curve about a central point.

The basic process would be as follows:-

  • Draw one purlin at the apex where the web is vertical and perpendicular to the rafter.
  • Use Polar Array to copy the purlins to required spacing around rafter - set whether or not ot rotate members as they are copied. If you say no Rotate then the web stays vertical. If you say Yes to Rotate the web stays perpendicular to the rafter.

There are some 3rd part tools that can be added to basic AS to enhance and allow you to create purlins on a curved,

You can do purlins on a curved beam using the Structure Designer in the PowerPack from Graitec.
it does depend what you are trying to achieve and how your purlins are set out,  one off then manual process, need to repeat time after time then maybe so 3rd part tool.

@johnjmbennett  Hi John I tried polar array method but the purlina are not passing over the elliptical curve that I have drawn which is shown in the image. But I don't know about the structural designer powerpack if you using that please try to do some demo video on that.It will be helpful for me understand,Thanks.

Hi,

Hmm , well that will be old school then, manual setout based upon the p ellipse settings.
My suggestion is if you still have the 2d elements you created the ellipse from then use that to give you some reference points from which to create the purlins.
As to orientation of the purlin, there is a 3point ucs command in AS, you could use that against the segment where you wish to place the purlin.

If you ellipse is made from some curved approx beams then you could use a series of radial lines based upon that segments Center point, at those points there is also a ucs command available for ucs on curved beam, select the beam and then a ref point. Again that may help set the correct rotation.
