Please help me with a custom numbering issue

Hi everyone,

currently I am modeling a roof for an aviary in a swiss zoo, for a new customer.

His numbering requirements are like this:

1st assembly: MP number: 5110, SP numbers: 5110.01, 5110.02, 5110.03 etc.

2nd assembly: MP number: 5120, SP numbers: 5120.01, 5120.02, 5120.03 etc.

...

The MP numbers are prescribed by the customer, so I assign them manually, which is quick to do since the roof has only about 30 assemblies in total. My problem is assigning the SP numbers in the way shown above. They need to start with 01 for each assembly, with the MP number as a prefix. Is there a quick way to do this? Manual SP numbering is no option, since there are hundreds of single parts (many of which are identical), and i expect a much larger project from this customer in the future.

Hope there is someone out there who can help me solve this.

I know such a numbering from one other customer, and if I remember correctly, it's not possbile.

But just for interest: by using this method, you will have no equal part detection. So no singlepart will have the same number neither they are the same object.
In the end I'm getting (just as example) 50 plates, which are the same, but they have different singlepartnumbers because of their different mainpart. And if you build create DXF or NC with a signature of the singlepart number, the peoples in the shop have 50 different part and they had to select always the one, on which mainpart they are actual working. 
I know this is not your fault, but this kind of numbering is not very logical to me in view of the shop management

Agree with Sebastian, in additon, incrementing numbers by 10 rather than just 1 is not something that I've ever seen before.

You could get close by using part prefixes for single parts 5110. 5120. (not sure if a "dot" is allowed). Then number the single parts starting at 1 with two zeros.

If the assemblies could be numbered with increments of 1, you could number the assemblies first starting at 5110 and then use model browser to sort the assemblies into groups and add the part prefixes for the single parts... Otherwise, the only other way i can think of is to number one assembly at a time incrementing the starting number, and then adding the prefix.

I am already trying to talk my customer out of his numbering method, it is simply not practical when you think it through. They manually number their parts, because they work with pure AutoCAD. Your feedback helped me a lot, since I can now sell that this method is not feasible with Advance Steel 👍
