Angle Part Detail Issues

Advance Steel 2025

I have been dealing with a couple issue with my angle part detail drawings for a long time now, and was hoping someone could help me solve them.

1. My angle drawings never include dimensions to holes. See attached screen capture settings. I haven't a clue what any of this means, so if this is the correct place where it needs fixing, please let me know specifically what needs to be edited or fixed.

2. Holes are labeled 13/16" even though this has been turned off in the Management Tools.

Thanks for any help with these issues.

See attachemnts...

Hi,

From what I can see the dimensions are appearing as expected. The rules shown provided dimensions only to the "TV" (Top View). This means that only when you see the hole from the top (round) will it be dimensioned. A dimension style would need to be added or the existing one changed to include holes as shown from the side.

Currently

A rule to dimension the holes without this restriction or with a side restriction would need to be added if you want the holes seen from the side to be dimensioned as well. For example...

This rule could be added to the list to include holes seen from the side.

As to the hole diameter for standard size holes showing. Please verify these settings in the Management Tools -- >Defaults

This should function on all new drawings going forward and suppress the default hole size label from appearing.

Hi,

Further to @DMorton_Graitec_Mtl The bottom view clearly includes a horizontal dimension to the holes but not a vertical one. You are showing us the rules from the front view. The dimension request for a vertical dimension in there (likely similar in the bottom view) is referring to the system line but I can't see the system line in your view so it has nothing to dimension to.

Everything about Drawing Styles is inter-related and not easy to learn or fix in a couple of lines on email.

Equal Angles are a bit annoying because one leg is considered a Web and gets the Front View while the other leg is considered a Flange and would be shown in the top or bottom view. It is almost impossible to tell which is which when modelling. The out of the box drawing styles are all set up to expect most information in the Front View. This suits most I beams etc but is not always good for Angles.

What if I don't want it to dimension from a system line? What would I need to change?

Management Tools is set up correctly, but these 13/16" holes still get labels. It started about a year ago after many years of working fine.

There are no specific options to dimension from the back edge of an angle other than to define it by the system line. If you remove the rule to dimension this way then you will likely need to create a rule that measures to the extents of the object (inner and outer edge) and then manually delete the additional dimension you do not want after the drawing is created. Is this what you are looking for?

Trying to make a rule that measures from just one edge will end up dimensioning to the back edge of the angle some times and to the front edge of the angle at others, depending how the angle is inserted and rotated in the model.

Yes, it sounds like that is what I am looking for.

As mentioned by Aleck, the current drawing style references the system line. If disabled the dimensions disappear. You need to create a rule that references the extents rather than the system line. In the images below I changed 1 setting from system line to extreme. Notice the difference.

Default drawing style rule for clip angle:

I changed just the one rule for expedience sake, you would be better to make a new rule or find one that already works this way.

Here, by using "Ref Extreme" instead of "Ref System" you will be grabbing both edges but you can delete the one you don't want manually from the drawing. Note I did not make new steps to this point or a new drawing style rule so just changing this setting may affect other drawing styles as well.

Firstly be VERY CAREFUL with this and backup your main folder.

This is my dimension setup for holes in parts.

Dim 1 mp holes only all points, dim 2 extreme size.

These are for the X direction but the Y is exactly the same.

Also these are for the top view but the front view dimensiong uses the same ones.

Thanks Mick. It looks like your settings are in a different format/language than mine, therefore I can't relate to the screen captures. Not your fault, just my own ignorance. The screen capture I provided is the same View dimension settings for the Front, Bottom and Right side. If it's not any easy fix, I will just continue adding the dimensions manually.

I appreciate all the help, but when it comes to editing these rules, I sometimes I get it and am successful, but this one is beyond me...

Mine are heavily customised.

This is the nearest I have to yours.Screenshot 2024-10-04 160642.jpgScreenshot 2024-10-04 161058.jpg
