Advance Steel Officially in Maintenance Mode

https://blogs.autodesk.com/revit/2023/03/29/advancing-steel-detailing-and-design-at-autodesk/

So AutoDesk officially put Advance Steel in maintenance mode. There will be no new features added to this software. I assume that the Ideas forum is basically a graveyard now. Thanks for nothing AutoDesk. I gotta say I'm pretty pissed about this.

Here is a quote from the article

"As we strive to bring these BIM-connected workflows and added value to our customers, we are shifting efforts to advancing and accelerating our steel capabilities in our BIM, data and collaboration platforms.  This means pivoting away from developing new features in Advance Steel and placing it on maintenance mode. "

Comosys how much is perpetual license price?

i think around 10k. they have intelligent connection method like SDS2.

comosys doesn't support full imperial units for 3D modelling.

they have trial license, and its free.

Imperial it is needed, but it sounds interesting,  what about subscription prices? Per month per year?

Doesn't Parabuild still need an AutoCAD license? It would mean additional costs per year...

Parabulid also works on BRICSCAD.

Whether on Bricscad or AutoCad, they are always licenses for Parabuild in addition. It doesn't seem like a simple solution like Advance Steel 😁

Dear Community,

many months ago, not only based on market developments, we decided to develop our own real 3D CAD for our industry. As it uses direct input from our own static program, it is the most perfect solution for us. We will still be using Advance Steel in the background before we fully transition to our system. I wish everyone who is switching to another CAD a happy choice and much success. As the classic says, change is the only constant in the universe. Stay strong and healthy...

Anyone can make a version of AS. It's only a collection of scripts, etc running on the full version of ACAD.  So why isn't there an open community AS yet?  Yes it'll take donations and or even subscriptions, but nothing compared to what the big boys are asking.

With community support all things are possible....don't expect AD to do anything for you, unless it A). Fits their agenda, B). Profits them enormously.

I personally, always subscribe to software I regularly use (Thunderbird, Firefox, Open Office, WSFTP, etc)

Just a thought....

Except that you would only buy the rights to use the name Advance Steel 🤠 and its technology, which is currently being implemented in Revit. Then let us know 😁

Is AS being implemented in Revit? My assumption was that AD is creating something new to put AS (along with other disciplines)  in the cloud somehow. I'm sure part of all of this is to ALSO charge us for cloud access. Charging for cloud access is thew golden egg for software companies.

Where can we see examples of this new BIM development? I have been working with Revit for 20 years and Advance Steel for 10, and my experience with the integration between them both has been pretty poor. The connections and detail level in Revit with steel connections has also been very poor, so if Autodesk is planning on shifting its steel detailing into Revit, great, I just hope they incorporate all the functionality that we are used to in Advance Steel. I'm skeptical about this transition, since all we have seen so far is an article full of corporate jargon, and standard dreamy wording describing a wonderful life in a perfect world. Show us what you got Autodesk....

Tekla, until we see what we will get from Autodesk.

If we don't get anything-arrivederci Autodesk.

It was nice to meet you.

Hopefully, you feel good about what you did.

@leslie.lees

Count me in, I will gladly pay for the new Advance Steel, call it something different-Advance Detailing for example.

Or something else-it doesn't matter.

One from detailers for detailers.

Very good idea.

Better / new Advance Steel, knowledge of the market for which the SW is being developed, developer with focus on user and his needs, long-term and sustained development  .... all that and more have been missing for a long time.

I don't understand how incompetence can try to develop something new and at the same time rub honey around the mouths of users... otherwise the visible steps back up to the trees cannot be explained.

One for all, all for one

Tekla has some nice surface options, hope Autodesk will implement it in the new cloud-based steel detailing software:

Their ribbon is gray with black, life is not gray and black. the worst design after the other competitor-their's is even worse.

So I decided to do my own interface with half of the commands being macros-time savers, kind of custom commands.

Now I don't have to browse the ribbon like a panicking beginner,

Have a great night.
