Vray to standard material and preserve links

Hi All

I purchased a scene from Cgtrader today.

Im using max 2018 basic.
It was created in vray.

So the first thing I get is missing dlls?

Capture1.PNG

Then after pressing Open I get No textures in viewport.
Capture2.PNG
After getting materials from selected ....

The materials are black and display missing materials

Capture3.PNG

When I click on the material there are no links at all.

Capture4.PNG

How do I get around this?

Hello,

There is no problem it's normal because Vray is not installed on your PC. You have the modeling but not the materials. Each object has a Vray material that you can not see but you can change with a "scanline" or "MentalRay" or "Arnold" or other material depending on your rendering engine

Thankyou for your comment.
Do you know How to change them?
While keeping the links?

One way to tackle this would be to use the new material converter in Max 2018 and change all material to Physical materials or standard material, depending on what render engine you will use.   If this does not work, download the demo of VRay, installed it and then try changing the materials again.

Then there is a script for 3D Max that is called Relink Bitmap with this script you will be able to relink all textures and missing part of your scene.

Remember to give some love to the developer, this script is a life saver.

Regarding purchasing Online, most of that website gives you the option to choose what render engine the scene is prepared for, take a look at yours  maybe you have something more friendly with your workflow.

I wanted to check in here and see if you resolved this issue with your model.  Are you all set now?  If not, is there anything I can do?  I'll answer any questions you may have and help in any way possible.  Thanks!
