Noticed ZERO on my posts - is anyone available to help?

Hi,

Currently a 3D animation student and can't afford to purchase V-Ray yet, but wanting to create a diffused light through transparent colored objects.  I tried ALT+X but that just grayed out the object, didn't show color and no longer cast a shadow.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Lost in the woods here.

Thanks,

Crystal

Accepted solution

Hi Crystal,

Alt-x is a viewport tool - I assume you are looking for a rendering solution. I would start with some research on translucency within either the standard or MR Arch & Design materials you want the light traveling through. Maybe some volumetrics on the light as well.

Have you tried these sources? Might be some good info there until you get a specific answer here.

https://www.google.com/search?q=diffused+light+through+transparent+colored+objects+3d+max

Hope this helps steer you in the right direction. 🙂

Thank you so much, Daf!!

No!! I hadn't seen that!! Just bookmarked it to research it today 🙂  If the links you gave me work, I still might get V-Ray, but at least I'll have more options now until I can afford the other tools.

Here are my system specs if that helps you help me:

System Specs:

  • AMD FX™-8350 Eight-Core Processor
  • 8 GHz CPU
  • GeForce GTX 950 video card
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit
  • 6 TB Free Disk Space
  • Realtek High Definition Audio
  • 1280 x 960 or higher Monitor Maximum Resolution
  • 0.0.203 Flash Version
  • Java V7 Update 69
  • Internet Download Speed: 108.1 Mbps or higher
  • Internet Upload Speed: 27.9 Mbps or higher

You Rock!! Here's a pic of the mood Mystical, I'd wanted to make my egg character translucent / transparent or maybe the wall, now, thanks to you I can play around with diffused light! Mystical.jpg

Sincerely,

Crystal
