How can I load UDIMs into Arnold "Image" node?

Looking at the Arnold docs for the Image node it states "UDIM token functionality is supported" but I can't figure out how to load in multiple UDIM tile maps as one can with the 3dsmax Multitile node.

Can anyone tell me how to get this to work?

Thanks in advance.

use the <udim> token in the texture file name

S:\assets\textures\example.<udim>.exr

@Stephen.Blair   Thanks for your reply but this does not work.  The node will not acknowledge any more than the first UDIM file.

You are not suggesting I use "<" or ">" in the file name are you??

Yes.

maxtoa_image_udim.jpg

The <udim> token will be replaced with 1001, 1002, and so on

So, how am I to name a file including the characters "<" or ">" ??  Windows will not accept these for use in a file.

You don't name the files with "<udim>"

You type "<udim>" in the filename box, in 3ds Max.

Instead of test.1001.jpg, type test.<udim>.jpg

At render time, the <udim> token is replaced with the required udim number.

@Stephen.Blair Just wondering if you could please help me. Your above statement helped when rendering locally. I am now using Backburner and have moved all files to a networked drive using UNC paths accessable to all servers. All servers are using the same version of Max and MaxToA. I have tried with the option 'include maps' and without. I recieve no errors or crashes within Backburner, just a black rendered image completed in a fraction of the time.

Any ideas?

Thanks

That doesn't sound like a texture udim problem. Can you get a detailed Arnold log for a render?

Hi Stephen,

you are absolutely correct. Our administrator updated the MaxToA but didn't update the Nvidia driver. After turning on generate logs, the error message was clear.

Thanks
