Hi
First off I am not a 3dsMax expert, and muddle my way though it for my limited needs.
I need to do various sun studies with shade structures. Previously I used the "Mr Sun" and Scanline Render.
I am now trying the newer Arnold Renderer with Sun Positioner instead. I do prefer this method.
I am unable to turn off the visibility of the Shade roof in order to only see the generated shadows. I have tried the only solution I found on the forum, of a double sided material, but either I implemented it incorrectly, or it just does not work?
If the "Visible to camera" setting does not work, then what can I do? All I want to see are the shadows, and in my case I will allow the edge cables to be visible to camera to show the outline of the fabric roof, but not the roof its self.
Attached sample image of a quick test, ISO view for clarity.
Thanks

Add the Arnold Modifier to that surface.
Hi
Thanks for the reply, but could you explain a little more please.
I was under the impression that I had already done that, but it does not work, so I am doing something wrong. My skill set is not sufficient enough to understand your comment.
Even as a test, I made a plane, placed a teapot on top of it, tried to hide the teapot from the camera, nope, does not work, its still visible.
version: 3ds Max 2022, SP1
Thanks
