If you mean work with the Hardware Renderers in Max (Iray, Quicksilver) then probably not. They require CUDA cards which AFAIK means nVidia only.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

iray will work with CPU only, but its much faster with an nvidia GPU in the class of 270x, like 660 or 760.

Max and quicksilver will both work fine with 270x, but they both prefer nvidia gpu. Reversing the situation in games, 660 is faster in Max by about 20%- in quicksilver. Difference in Max viewports is not that noticeable.

If you don't intend to use iray and you don't care that QS is slower, go for the AMD card. Just make sure you also are using a single monitor or that you don't care about triple power usage when using AMD card with two or more monitors.
