missing menu bar and user features due to update

Hi,

My 2013 3ds max was crashing, I sent the report to autodesk and it suggested downloading an updated version. I did so however once opening 3ds max I no longer have the main menu bar available, when looking into customise user interface I have 2 menus to choose from whilst my colleagues have many. I cannot load their menus up as they are .mnu files and mine is a .mnux.

Along with this, when right clicking in the model space, the usual menu offering hiding, freezing, rotating etc objects has disappeared.

I have made no changes to any ui settings it was only through my 3ds max not opening and crashing, then autodesk suggesting this updated download this has happened.

thanks

Delete your 3dsmax.ini and restart max. It seem that it may have corrupted. Restarting max will create a new default ini file, so you should get your menus back. As a precaution, rename the existing one and then restart max.

How do I delete my 3dsmax.ini? I'm unsure what this is.

Thanks

The max ini file is a simple text file that holds info about your max setup. It is this that max referes to when sorting out menus etc, so if you delete it, max makes a new one with defaults for the ui and you should get all your menus back. The ini can get corrupted, as it can with Maya (a little different) but I have done this for years and it works ok. If you have a default max install, you can find your ini file here:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAMEHERE\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2016 - 32bit\enu

or a similar address.

As a precaution, just rename the 3dsmax.ini file and then restart max. Also, you could open the ini file and have a look at what is stored.

hope this helps

regards
