Computer keeps going to sleep while rendering

I don't know if anyone can assist with this.

We have a new Dell Laptop I bought because the specs seemed to meet the requirement for 3Ds max 2017.

However when I want to render the computer keeps going to sleep. I though it was a fault on the machine so i took it back and got a replacement but now the new one is doing the same thing. I have checked the specs over and over again and my only thought is that it might be the graphics card. Has anybody else had a similar problem or who could advise what the problem may be? I have included a screen shot of specs of the machine.

Hi @Anonymous

Easiest solution would be to turn off sleep mode in Windows:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13770/windows-shut-down-sleep-hibernate-your-pc

This will stop your computer going to sleep if you haven't done anything in a set amount of time.

Hi,

Try to check your Screen Saver,

And choose the option None

Hi there,

Sorry I should have maybe given some more detail in my original post. This is happening while we are actively working on the machine. It's not for a lack of movement it can happen as we click the mouse even. all screen savers and sleep settings have been set to never.

Well maybe a last thing to check:

Control panel, Power Options, change Plan Settings, you have an option

called change Advanced Power Settings, in the dialog that opens click the + next to the sleep option,

You'll have the Sleep After, in the image i'm showing i only have one option since it's a desktop,

In your case there is two: On Battery and Plugged In,

Set on Battery to 0 and Plugged In to Never.

in this dialog you can adjust other settings related to the display and Hibernation, etc,...

Quick Edit: Now i'm thinking about it again, maybe it will not change anything what i mentioned up,

unless there is some bug or something. You can try different power plans to experiment.

I always keep mine High Performance.

Also, you can try disabling the built-in Graphic card from the Device Manager, Display Adapter,

To see if that changes anything. It's strange thing what's happening.

Hi Lauren01,

Have you manage to solve the problem? I have ran into this problem as well, with a Dell T5610.

Thanks!

SOLUTION: First, I set all sleep options to "Never" and still had the same problem of going to sleep after a minute of rendering...  so I tried something different. Windows only had this problem when 3ds was in the foreground rendering, so why not try putting another program in the foreground as max renders in the back ground. So, i set max to rendering, then opened the solitaire game window and left the machine. No more sleep problem! yay. Hope this works for you , if you need it. Cheers
