The mystery of the disappearing legs

Hello:

Please refer to this model of a chair, originally created by 3ds Max:

The problem is that when it is exported to several formats (FBX, OBJ) the 4 legs disappear.

FBX and OBJ under Rhino:

OBJ under Rhino.jpg

FBX and OBJ under Blender:

The image below (FBX imported by 3ds Max) provides a hint:

It seems that the legs are actually thin lines, which show fine in 3ds Max.

TIA

Hi,

This is normal behavior,

2D shapes, by default, cannot be rendered, but you can change that from the Rendering

Rollout. Checking "Enable In Renderer" and "Enable In Viewport" will allow you to give

Circular and Rectangular thickness to your shape that you can control with the parameters below

Those two options.

But the nature of the object is still Spline.

Obj format will refuse to export it anyway. While FBX will accept it but some programs

Will not import it. It will import well with the FBX if you try to import it to 3DS Max.

To solve this issue, select the legs and convert them to a mesh object like Editable Poly.
