Need Help Making Grooves

I would like to make some recessed groves in the black piece seen in the image. I want the two thin strips of faces to be recessed slightly into the shape.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I have tried scaling and several other techniques, but nothing is getting a unifrom reduced shape throughout the U-Shape to create the recess.

extrude minus on the local normals

that is. convert to poly, extrude on the negative value and choose local normals
