How to model a tubular object with desired skin width?

This is a follow up to a previous thread:

 

     Translate How to convert a cylinder into a tube? 

 

I am trying to learn how to make a semi-hollow tube or cone.

 

What I have so far is this: create cone, convert to editable poly. Next, I remove the top and bottom "lids". The "skin" has zero width. I would like to make it a little thicker.

Put a shell-modifier on it. Adjust inner/outer amount.

 

**Bow down before shell- modifier** hallowed be his name, solution to so many modeling problems.
