I am trying to apply a bitmap onto the face of an editable poly but the only thing that shows up is the base color of the map. The bitmap works on other polys but when I try applying it to this specific one it doesn't work.

Did you apply a uv map or uvunwrap modifier on the editable poly? Without uvs the map will not show properly. A screenshot of your mesh and the modifier stack would help to understand your issue. You also have to enable show texture in viewport in the material editor.
