suddenly, vertex axis is always mis-aligned in edit mesh

I started in 3d max when they had dongels with the software, and have 3d modeled since 1986, just in my own little niche, working within a certain range of routines.....

I've been working in 2014, and have always been able to edit mesh vertex's easily in extruded shapes, primatives, lofts, ... easily being the xyz axis stays aligned to the front,/side/top views.

Now all the sudden all my models when I want to edit vertex's in edit mesh have a rotated axis, that prevent grabbing groups or single points.

I've gone back and opened old models where I know I could accomplish this, and still its mis-aligned ( image attached) .... so I must have bungled some toggled setting exporing and trying to learn something new!

Any suggestions how to get the axis for moving vertex's in edit mesh to move aligned to the world/screen alignment coordinates?

Thanks in advance!

Steven

Hello;

Please select the vertex and change the align mode to View. It must have switched to Local, that's why it is appearing like that in the screenshot you have posted.

Here's the menu screenshot:
